Hi Lisa ~ thank you for extending your friendship to me here in RFR - I remember how much fun it was to have 'pen-pals' when I was a kid (the days of snail mail only :) and to connect with friends in other countries - so hellllooooo down there in Australia! I'm so glad you're on the journey with me!
G'day mate....wow, didn't expect such a lovely welcome. Actually I'm from Germany, Hamburg, but I spend some month in Sydney to be with my brother and my lololololoved nephews.
I'm quite excited what to find in this forum.
Thanks Lisa - that is way cool!!! There are two main things that I need short-term:
2) A bed frame and board. There are lots of ways/configuraitons to do this (and I could fudge it myself temporarily if I have to) but it would be awesome to have a carpenter make me something. A good carpenter could easily do this.
Once I have these two things in plcae, the rest of my fit-out will develop around them. I haven't started seriously focusing on this yet (Wednesday is pegged for my campervan fitout day) but if you have contacts/ideas, I would be very open to them!!! Thanks so much Lisa :-) xx
Try this "burger". I've also posted it in the KITCHEN
Happy Cow Barbeque Burger
(makes 10-12 patties)
soak together for about 3-4 hours:
1 C walnuts
1 C pecans
1 C cashews
1/2 C sunflower seeds
2 dates, pitted
7 sun-dried tomatoes
2 celery stalks, cut into chunks
2 large ripe roma or similar-sized tomatoes, cut into large chunks
2 T. nutritional yeast flakes
2 tsp. savory or dried parsley
1 T. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. minced garlic
1/2 tsp. grounf d white pepper
1 tsp. sea salt
Drain soaking ingredients and rinse well. Combine all ingredients in food processor, putting the tomatoes and celery on the bottom. Process until "meaty" and a somewhat smooth texture is reached.
Place 10-12 medium-sized mounds on dehydrator screen (not teflex sheets) and shape into patties - about 1" tall. Dehydrate at 130 degrees for 3 hours and then turn temperature down to 115 and continue drying for another 5 hrs. Flip burgers over. Continue dehydrating for another 2-3 hrs. Patties will keep well stored in fridge.
That's so cool Lisa, you beat me to the South island lol I still haven't been down there although would love to go!
Yes i'm up in the top half of the North island in the Bay of Plenty, Tauranga is a city on the coast, it's really fast growing area with immigrants arriving from all over the world which is really exciting, this makes it a very friendly city because all the new people are eager to make new friends lol
I'm excited for you that your homeschooling journey is just beginning, it's such a fantastic lifestyle to raise your children in, i also started when my eldest were preschoolers, i just didn't think someone else should have the pleasure of their comapny for 6 hours a day when our life was so interesting and filled with the wonder of discovery... now they are 24, 22, 20 and 16 I look back wistfully at all the fun we had and feel privileged.
Home schooling has changed a great deal since we began, we unschooled and it was a very 'alternative' thing to do, almost just for hippies lol... we had a very strong home educators group and my eldest 3 are still best friends with the children they grew up with from that time.
The raw food 'scene' is not quite happening yet, although i think in Auckland (3 hours away) things are pretty good and there are workshops and restaraunts. Here I think it's just a matter of time for people to 'find' each other and get together, giant trees from little acorns grow :) Although I'm challenged by the search to find ingredients for some of the recipes, so i've decided to be proactive and ask all the possible outlets to order in what i need...
I am actually combating the flu... the swine kind lol.. this weekend and am bombarding my body with every healthy thing i can get my hands on *grins* I'm determined I'm going to win!!!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend :)... lol now all i can think about are the clouds of cockatoos that i saw flying all over the national park at dawn... they were just stunning!... :D
Hey Lisa... I was a homeschooling Mum too! Until last week when my youngest started her tertiary education :).. that's so exciting what lucky children you have... it's such a fabulous lifestyle... and the Blue Mountains!! wow how wonderful to live there... I've only been once but it's emblazoned in my memory such a stunning place... it seemed to me there were a lot or arty/creative/alternative lifestyle people living up there :D
Happy Birthday Lisa!! I hope your special day was full of wonderful surprises and all of your most favorite people, places, and things; may your upcoming year overflow with everything that makes your heart sing :-}
