The Allure of the Cinnamon Bun
Yes, I am sure the title got your mouth watering for that ooey gooey sweetness. Even if you do not eat the standard ones anymore (but make em raw) the picture of them brings a smile to your face and drool down your chin no doubt.
What is this?
Are you seeking comfort? Are you merely thirsty? Does your body need fat to keep warm? What nurturance does it represent to you?
Ok Ok, this was not the point of this article, I simply got carried away and now seek to dissaude my desire for one (just kidding).
“Now, what exactly is the point of this?” you ask.
I am asking you to look at cinnamon, and not the bun. Hey, many are allergic to gluten anyway, so let us leave off the bun! Back away from the bun, with your hands up. No, I won't quit my day job and take up a comedy act, so no worry. I might better stick to my forte' and expertise.
Cinnamon, the superfood!!! Is your body asking for cinnamon? Does it really want a cinnamon bun for health and nutrients? Although these certainly have an alluring draw, maybe you are wanting cinnamon perhaps or sugar? Or do you have candida in your body which is begging for fat, sweet and white flour?
Or, on an even higher note, maybe there is something about your life that is not as sweet as you would like you, so you seek to "sweeten life". Hmmm how far does that get you? It never worked for me ro stuff with sugar..... (drat!)
Interestingly enough, cinnamon and craving it, is a great place to be! Cinnamon is a true superfood!
Here are just a few reasons:
smelling it boosts cognitive function
it has been shown to reduce the growth of cancer cells
reduces cholesterol and improves circulation
great for stomach gas and bloating
eases menstrual symptoms
is an aphrodasiac (the smell)
So, maybe it is your cinnamon loving body that is asking for cinnamon, to remedy a condition.
Maybe it is your cinnamon loving heart that is asking for some? Cinnamon has been shown beneficial for the heart due to it's anti-inflammatory properties. Many people eat fried, fatty and processed foods, which cause inflammation of our internal tissues and organs, and this inflammation has been linked to one of the most life-threatening diseases of our time – heart disease.
Andrew Weil says this about inflammation:
“A growing consensus among cardiologists pinpoints abnormal inflammation in artery walls as a root cause of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.”
So, cinnamon, being a powerful anti-inflammatory, can be a potential ally in our fight to decrease heart disease, strokes and heart attacks! Combine that with the ability it has to balance the blood sugar, makes it a winner for the heart too!
How can you ensure some daily cinnamon? Put it on everything! Put it in oatmeal, smoothies, and on top of raw apples.
You can also stir it into tea and coffee if you like as it makes a flavorful drink. Or you might try this great dessert:
Cinnabon Mon Ice Cream
2 frozen bananas
1 cup almond milk
Vanilla and Cinnamon to taste
Blend almond milk with frozen bananas. Add spices. Sprinkle the top with nutmeg. You may freeze slightly if needed.
Bring on the cinnabon mon! Heavenly! Just heavenly!
So you see, for the health and heart enhancing benefits of cinnamon, you really want to resist the bun and go for the fun, of a healthy and happy body!
