Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Apply the following to your new Raw Food Lifestyle!

You're on an airplane; the steward is making the normal safety announcements. "....Notice where your seat is...... If the oxygen mask comes down, before you help anyone else, first put the oxygen mask on yourself."

You think to yourself: Wait a minute! NO-- I need to get the oxygen mask on Little Johnny before I get it on myself he can't go without oxygen he's just a tiny kid I can hold my breath for a minute while I help him first!!

I mean, have YOU ever had that thought? (I ALWAYS have that thought.)

In fact, if I hadn't heard that same message 576 times, I probably WOULD put the mask on Little Johnny first-it feels like a gut instinct, to help others before you help yourself.

Well WHY do the airlines tell us to put our own mask on first?
"If you are seated next to someone who might need some assistance, such as a child, an individual with limited physical or mental capabilities or just a sleepy, groggy spouse, you should put your own mask on first, then breathe normally as you assist the other person. That way, if the other struggles, you will have a steady flow of oxygen as you fight the person to get their mask on.".....
from:

Take care of yourself first

It's a wise concept, even if- at first- intuitively it maybe even feels a bit selfish. But...think about it a minute.

What's the best way to take care of yourself and your loved ones ....... most would agree it's to be at the top of your game in all ways. Your clarity of mind, focus, energy, physical strength, mood, sense of well-being... immune system, your general health; the better you are the better you are able to do the job that you need to do. The better you are, the better equipped you are to handle anything that comes along, whether that manifests as needing to lift a 75 pound sack, pump water, change a tire, tend a garden, care for others...

So my first intuitive flash of wanting to help Little Johnny on with his oxygen mask before I put mine on-the concept of help others before you help yourself -is..backwards...the truth is, in order to help others, you must first take care of yourself!! Put that life preserver around your own neck first, before you dive in to pull others to safety!

It makes sense to "put your oxygen mask on first", so you won't pass out before you can help someone else. In other words, it makes sense to take care of yourself so you will be able to handle whatever comes along.

Right now even listening to the news can be stressful-what can you do to take care of yourself so that you can be the best you possible- No matter what happens?

Susan, I needed to read this a week or so ago. Thanks for posting this. Yep, I run from pillar to post trying to take care of everyone else, and I end up pooped!
Love you

I totally agree, it's hard to do but sooo important. Plus, our children need to know that we are taking care of ourselves first. They respect us for it and it sets a good example for when they have their own families.

It is sooo hard to adapt that concept... (sorry guys) maybe more so for women? But I'm moving towards self care just because I know that if I don't I won't be around that long! So, I justify caring for myself as an act towards those I love so that I'll be around to keep caring for them. Hope they feel the love when I tell them they have to wait! LOL...

Great food for thought this morning Susan. We know this stuff but need to actually do it. If we don't take care of ourselves, we are no help to others.

I was a flight attendant for 20 years, fun to read this and yes to be reminded to take care of ourselves first or we won't be able to help anyone!
