Real Food Rehab

No rigid rules, labels or dogmas.... just REAL food, for your body, mind & soul!

A video pushed me over the edge of indecision yesterday as to whether to do low carb or raw.  It was one of Dara's along with her sweet 86 year old father "Herbie.  He is visibly, strikingly changed by eating raw food.  He was a very handsome, distinguished  man to begin with - before Dara got him hooked on raw. His mental clarity has improved by leaps and bounds.  He looks very sharp, very healthy.  Any arthritis he had is gone.  I believe he said he can now walk 17 blocks (maybe it was 7, not sure) instead of 2.  And apparently he is taller (something to do with spinal stenosis improvement)

So, today, except for coffee, I've been eating only raw and already I feel so much better.  "Plumbing" is excellent.  Rings are looser on my finger and I am excited and not fearful anymore that this is what I am going after - health and renewed happiness that comes from real food.  I am just waiting to hear back from Dara about some ingredients she uses in one of her coffee substitutes and then I plan to buy them and make it instead of my usual brew.  I haven't eaten much today but I am not starving - just living on excitement I think- excitement about what I know is ahead for me.  I even went out and bought personalized license plates for my car but I am not sure if I can upload the photo.  I will when I can do it properly.  I tried earlier and it didn't work.  It says "RAWWORKS".

Today I had two smoothies:  pineapple/cucumber and another, banana/celery (so sweet and good) and a handful of raw pumpkin seeds.  Then for supper I made a coleslaw with one of Dara's raw dressings and it was so yummy!  I ate half of a large bowlful.  Am still not able to upload my photos for some reason.  Just had my computer cleaned up and they seem to have moved things around.  Not sure.  I'll have to call a friend to help me with it.  My friend came today and fixed me up so that I can upload pics again so here is the coleslaw I made yesterday with the raw salad dressing I mentioned that is so delish.

I really like watching Dara's video's. I haven't seen one in a while but was intrigued by your comments about Herbie and had to go check them out. I ended up watching a bunch of her video's and feel so inspired. How is your raw adventure going?

Hi Maureen and Kate!  Haven't been here in a while.  I have been up and down and all over the place with my eating.  And I've been so hot this summer.  It's been so humid and the air is seldom ever on in our apartment.  Ugh!  Anyway - Kate - I'll not forget - I'll try to figure out which of Dara's recipes I used for that coleslaw a.s.a.p.  Please be patient with me.  I am slow aren't I?  Hope all is well with you both.

All the best and love to you both.

Hi Islegirl! Great to see you're back here too. I was around a couple of years ago, but went back to cooked eating with the occasional (ok, not so occasional) foray into seriously SAD eating.

After reading your post, I looked up the Dara video about her Dad - that's so amazing - and I'm back on raw as well. Why is it so hard though, to stay motivated after that initial OMG that you get when you first find this lifestyle?

What was the coleslaw recipe you mentioned? I LOVE coleslaw, and would love to try it.

Kate xx

Thanks Mae and kathleen.  Hope you are both having a good weekend.  We just came back from a Sushi restaurant I'd never been to - we took some friends and had a great time.  So delicious!  And now they are coming back here to help me with my computer.  He's a brain!
