Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Dear all :)

I've just found out that I've arthritic changes in my knee at 32 yrs old. I'm guessing I  got it from Olympic weightlifting and poor food combining.  I'm yet to go for more examinations.
I know I need to make changes to my diet and was hoping someone could  recommend or suggest some reading material or previous blogs on the matter as I'd much rather use food as my aid than medication. I don't eat meat or dairy (yuck) but mostly eat cooked foods and the occasional green smoothie.

I've read a number of people have found that since adopting a raw food diet the pain has gone or is significantly less.  I've also read nightshade foods (gutted as I love sweet potato) should be avoided and  citrus fruit  that  I eat lots of & will miss terribly especially as I make a mean sweet pot, mushroom stew :(

If you can offer any advice, I'll welcome it gladly and look forward to hearing  from you :)

Thanks

Viv

I've found both books on Amazon. Hurrah! I'll order  them shortly, and in the meantime I'll look at your suggestions Becky & get cycling & swimming!

Thanks ever-so-much ladies.  Your help is truly appreciated :)

Funny enough I use to go to a place in Thailand, Koh Samui, years ago to do  cleansing programes that included colonics. I always felt brand new afterwards but due the increase in flight fares I stopped going. I simply couldn't afford it and the ones in the UK don't compare, and they cost a mini fortune. Given this I bought myself a colema board. I've had it a few years now, and only used it once. I didn't feel the same afterwards as i did when I fasted in Thailand but then London is quite the same. I'm guessing the sunshine has a big role  to play and surroundings /  tranquility.  I've a week off work soon so I'll do a detox then. Failing that a juice fast. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you again :))

Vivien,

I forgot to say that you have to use a recumbent stationary bicycle so the weight is not on your knees at all (the "normal" bicycles hurt the knees) it is really fabulous it will keep the muscles along the knees in good shape which are vital in case of arthritis (or in any case in fact).

I also forgot to mention the second book that you have to read (as important as the first one I talked about):

THERE IS A CURE FOR ARTHRITIS by Paavo O.Airola, N.D.

This canadian naturopathic doctor wrote a book on that subject (see the title of the book  and  of course raw food is a major thing...he also gives the treatment of the clinics (and hospitals) in the world that specialize in treating arthritis in a natural way  that is raw food, green juices fast, detoxing etc....) it is fabulous!!!!

Detoxing comes back all the time what ever you have  in fact.....the answer is often detox....green juices....etc....

And yes, loosing weight is the first of all (makes sens: less weight less pressure on your joints!)

If you cannot find any of those books I can send them to you and when you have finished reading them you can send them back!!!!

You are going to get better don't worry it is a matter of time!!!! Good luck!

I have a few suggestions for you to check out on the supper foods list.  Living silica and msm are the two that changed my pain around. However I have scoliosis. I also cannot live without raw cacao and raw thai coconuts.  Best wishes, Becky

Nathalia,

Thanks a million. How reassuring. So pleased you replied.  I'm defo searching Amazon for the book by Alan Schlines. That's just what I'm after. I don't think you can beat personal experience. Its a fantastic window.

The pain is my left knee and pretty bad. I get the occasional pain in my right knee too. Sometimes it's close to unbearable and to think I left it for a year thinking it was a muscular issue.    I was so down about it at first as Weight lifting and Crossfit are my life. Or were! I was quite surprised to hear it was arthritis considering my strength and at my age.  My coach suggested I lose weight and it probably wouldn't hurt to lose a few kilos. Well 7+ if honest. Boy oh boy this is going to be tough.

Thankfully I do own a vitamix and and have access to a pool. I live in London and the nearest to the ocean I get is the Thames. Shudder! Luckily I joined the local gym which I planned to use for when my coach was out of town and thought to myself each time I passed the pool, if only I was into swimming as it seemed such a waste. Not anymore. My gym has bikes too so guess I'm all set.  I just have to apply it all and beat the temptation to weight lift, and get familiar with some green smoothie and raw food recipes.

Thanks again :)

I have severe osteoarthritis in both my knees. I tried a lot of things then I read that book STOP ARTHRITIS, How I Defeated It Naturally - My Program Revealed by Alan Schlines.

He had really severe arthritis that guy and cured himself with raw food, exercise, colonics, enemas, etc.... he tried a lot and all his experiences are written there, it was very inspirational, He gives his 10 tops lists that have to be erased even from your vocabulary (but you know them sugar alcohol white flour etc...), the night shades veggies are not in that list as well as for me.

I eat tomatoes and it doesn't make it better or worse.

I know that white refined sugar, white flour, processed food, too much dairy is hell. BUT I have to say that exercise is one of the best thing you can do to yourself. But gentle exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on where your pain is (may be ever where?) try gentle exercise as it lubricates your joints naturally.

I have a stationary bicycle and I go swimming in the ocean (I live on a island in the north Pacific in Canada) and that has saved my life. Cold salted water!!!!! Of course not every one lives by the ocean....so in the winter I go to the pool twice a week and I swim for a minimum of 30 minutes, gently but non stop. I have not taken a single pain killer or whatever off all the summer. I religiously went swimming every evening, and also managed to loose 19Lbs (that also changed everything).

What I want to say is that it is possible to get better, 2 summers ago I thought I will have to live with that horrible pain all my life but no, it is possible to do something. You have to work on it and the road is not always easy but it is possible to have a life back (OK I don't jump rope or run a marathon ahahahahahahaha) as long as you work on it.

Green juices also are a must, or just greens (salads) if you don't have a juicer. Green smoothies will do.

Where is your pain located? Do you think you have a few pounds to loose or your weight is OK? Raw food supresses all the bad things you cannot (or should not) eat, it makes it easy!!!!

Weightlifting as an athlete can be hard on your joints.....good luck, hope it helps.
