Preparing for a Juice/Smoothie 3-dayer

Howdy All,

Crystal here.  This is my first blog post here at RFR.  The past few months I have yo-yo'd with my health dealing with kidney disease.  This past week I visited with my nephrologist and asked him about me doing a juice/smoothie fast.  He gave me the green light but no more than three days, then we will see how I feel before going onto a longer timeframe.

Honestly, I do not know if I even have the willpower to even see it thru.  My plans are to start this coming weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  This will give me time to research which recipes I want to try out and also go grocery shopping.

My hubby gave me an early present which was a Vitamix, so that is what I will be eating/drinking out during this quest of health.

If you have a favorite recipe for someone that has a huge sweet tooth, please feel free to forward it to me.

Sincerely,

Crystal T.

I don't know if you have already heard about these sweeteners yet but my two favorite are:

Agave nectar - low glycemic index but still very sweet and syrup so it adds moisture to raw recipes.

Honey with royal jelly - great flavor and not as bad for you as sugar as it helps your imune system

Stevia - great for teas and shakes I find that it gives a little bit of a taste to what ever it sweetens so you will have to play around with combinations. some things it works better with cacao is one and if you mix it with a little bit of  honey it brings out the honey taste in a wonderful new way.

I also agree with the two posts below. dates are great and they can be made into raw brownies and cakes.  Guilt free brownies are just heavenly.   other dried fruits are acceptable in the raw community you just have to be careful of added sugar and phosphates.  To many phosphates will give you gas. tmi but who else is going to tell you. :) best of luck...

Thanks for the replys Ellie and Jean, I really appreciate it.  I made it two days into the juicing, then had to go to the docs again.  I was not drinking enough water and was dehydrated...so I am going to try again in a month or so.  Doc started me on a new med so we have to make sure the juicing feast does not interfere with the meds or vice versa to make sure I am not having any side effects of the meds as well.

Hey Crystal I am one day behind you on a juice only and am (with the exception of christmas 3 days) going to try and do 42 days. It is interesting i have also been in hospital for 2 spells of treatment for a bacterial kidney infection. It was the reason i took control. Try and dig deep for the willpower, you will find it in there, i will watch and see how you go....best of luck!

ps... I juice 1/4 pineapple, 2 apples, 6 strawberries with 1/2 cucumber and 1/2 lime, i then blend it with 1/2 avocado and ice .... really gives me a sweet hit and is delicious :)

Medjool dates and/or ripe bananas that have been frozen will add some serious sweetness to pretty much anything you'd like to blend up. And it's helpful to start out using very mild greens like spinach or romaine lettuce rather than the strong tasting ones like kale. My veggie-phobic friends enjoy the taste of green smoothies that taste like fruit smoothies, but have the characteristic olive green color :) Good luck - you can do it!
