Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

I've been attempting high raw for about three years. At some times I'm higher raw than at other times. I think I'm now into my fourth Vault. And yesterday, I felt the shift! It proved to me that the saying, "don't quit before the magic happens" really is true.

Yesterday, I served a traditional holiday meal to my in-laws and step son and his family. For my husband I made a vegan but cooked meal.

And for me, I made a dinner that was all raw (thanks to Penni and the other wonderful chefs who contributed recipes to Raw for the Holidays). My meal was delicious, satisfying and beautiful. The one or two guests at the feast who tried my raw recipes were impressed with how good it all was.

But the shift is what this blog is about. Yesterday was the first holiday I had absolutely no desire for the traditional Thanksgiving fare. The mess and grease of all of it merely disgusted me, it didn't entice me. But my Waldorf Salad, Yummy Corn Salad, Raw Stuffing and other raw goodies ... that was a totally different situation. As much as I want to draw others to this healthy lifestyle, I was almost hoping they'd leave my raw dishes alone!

The raw life need not be repetitious or boring. There is something for everyone in it. There is something for those who want simple and those who miss the gourmet cooking they did in their "other life." That would be me. Yesterday, my culinary skills took flight and I was one happy raw foodist.

Oh, and another first for me. I didn't gain a pound on Thanksgiving Day! Woo-hoo!

I'm so glad I didn't quit before the magic happened!

Deborah, it's taken me a long time to treat myself as well as I've treated others and I don't think I'm alone in that. I'd say that might be true of the vast majority of members in RFR. Perhaps that's a reason I feel yesterday went so well. For once, I wasn't being the "martyr" and giving everyone else what they wanted while I just "made do."

I like your style alot!! You were multitasking for sure. That is so great that you took time to make yourself a meal with care just like you did for your guests. I have a raw sweet potato pie in my freezer that I am eating one piece at a time- no one else likes it but to me it is a big big treat.

Oh, Susan, thanks so much for adding this video. I don't think I've seen it before. I so, so agree with it. Once I made up my mind to eat this way, not because it was a cool thing to do but because I wanted to FEEL better and I trusted all of you who'd gone before me and told me that this was the way to feel better (I'd already given up meat for ethical reasons), I just stayed close to the path and the food really did make the shift. I am pain free. I have no symptoms or signs of the lupus I was diagnosed with in the early 90s. I feel and look younger than my daughter-in-law! Who would NOT want to eat this way with those kinds of results?

Susan, Penni's video on Shift is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!! I think you should work in the White House and help get this country as the Chief Archivist and get this country INFORMED.
