Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Hello from Cornwall (UK) :) And a bit about detoxing...

Hello everyone! I'm loving the vibe already of this little retreat... But feeling a bit awkward as a newbie and have a tonne of questions to put out there already!

Anyone else from the UK here? I live in beautiful Cornwall (currently sunny!) about 2 mins from the coast, on a small community farm.

I have been toying with raw for the last year and a half and am now on average about 60% raw, but upping it more and more each week. My health has been a mixed bag really, some of it obviously MUCH better, and some of it quite the reverse! I'm hoping that it is mainly just "detox" and all will be well sooooon....

Another wellness educator told me today that detox symptoms (or "die-off") are a signal that our body *isn't* coping with removing toxins effectively, and that we should ease off and approach the thing a whole lot more slowly, fortifying our body with wholefoods and ensuring we are getting all the relevant supportive vits/mins to enable detox, such as B12 etc.

What do folks think about this? At the moment I feel *awful*, and she reckons it may be due to me being a bit gung ho on kombucha (not kombucha tea, but kombucha made from fermenting rye grains in pure water). Green blisters appeared overnight where I suffer from eczema normally, and now I can't walk!

Anyone else experienced anything like this on detox?

On the plus side, I *feel* lighter, slimmer, and from day 2 of starting my day with green juices, my hyperhidrosis vanished!! I did my astanga class *without chalk* for the first time ever.

Well that's enough ramble from me just now, do pop in and say hello :)

Zoe

I am in "French Cornwall".  :-)

I hope all will soon be in balance for you.

Zoe it sounds like you are going through detox, and anything like rashes that show up on the skin, is the body attempting to detox through the skin, which is your third kidney.  Laurie is right about the fact that any of your health issues you've had over the years, will come back, as detox symptoms! that is your body cleaning them out. From what I have learned from Dr. Robert Morse, who is a detox specialist, the best way to detox is to go all fruit, all day, or fruit during the day, and a big salad at night. That is a gentle way of doing it.

He's mentioned people unable to walk during detox, and losing their eyesight...all sorts of things, but if you hang in there, the body should work them out. Of course if you are really concerned, pull yourself back a little bit, then try again later. It is a process, and it sounds like you have been working towards more raw in your diet.  It can only benefit you, as that is the way we should be eating...more 'real' food in their natural state. Good for you, I wish you much luck!

You might try making the rejuvelac with wheat or spelt or farrow instead of rye....maybe it's the rye?  And why can't you walk?  Do you have other issues?  But good for you for improving your diet and welcome!  I look forward hearing more from you.

<rejuvelac>, not kombucha! Sorry...

Wow, that's incredible! The body really does store everything, and it's amazing to me now that most of us seem willing just to put up with that! I know my husband thinks I'm bonkers because all he's seen really are the detox symptoms so far....

However on the plus side it's made my detox more solid - I haven't felt like eating at all today so have just been supping pure water and herbal teas. I had a bit of miso soup and some salad rolls when I started to feel faint and headachey, and that's passed now. Here's hoping I can walk again soon!

My close relative whom is quite high raw told me that she detoxed calamine lotion that her mother put on her as a child in the form of a rash on her arms. She also had a myriad of health issues and so her detox was quite severe at times.  You would think she had a new health issue, but it was really detox.  She also lost her peripheral vision for a time.  She explained that the body works on the highest priority area and at the same time shuts down lower priority areas.  She is an extremist so she went at the cleansing very extreme.  Now she doesn't let a grain of sugar pass her lips.  She is 67 and is in amazing health.

I understand the feeling awful and I hope it passes quickly.  If you can find something natural but soothing to help the blisters, then that would be best till they pass.  You may want to try coffee enemas.
