Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
So each week I have been trying to go from "SAD" to Raw. Each week I have increased my raw food intake and ventured away from SAD. I also have been eliminating excess use of protein as well because of my kidney disease. My body does not do well with alot of protein so I try to focus on the minimum amount needed on a daily basis under doc recommendation/supervision.
One of my biggest difficulties I am experiencing is making multiple meals for myself and my family. I am trying to come up with a plan to "Streamline" the food prep process and limit the number of pots, pans, bowls, etc I use just for one meal.
Wondering if anyone else out there has a similar problem with menu planning.
For example, I have gone from Spaghetti and Meat Sauce to eating Zuchinni Pasta with diced tomatoes, garlic, and basil with drizzle of olive oil. That way I still feel like I am eating the same meal as the boys. I even have chili recipe that I like to use that I learned from one of Penni's Youtube videos.
Now its trying to come up with a menu to match other items as well. I haven't found a raw taco recipe that suits my taste buds yet. I am still experimenting with recipes that I find.
Back to the kitchen I go....

Comment by RawSteps on March 12, 2012 at 11:14am What about soups -- maybe you could do the same thing. Prep all their veggies and simmer their soup while blending yours. Have some raw crackers ready to go for you, SAD crackers or bread for them.
Comment by RawSteps on March 12, 2012 at 11:11am Stir fries are another "one meal". Use soaked grains or spiraled/shredded zucchini for your base..... then stir fry their veggies and keep yours raw.
Comment by Crystal T on March 6, 2012 at 12:41pm My Zuchinni Pasta recipe I learned at a Raw Food class at my local Whole Foods. It's called Capellini Pomodoro.
For the Capellini spiralize or julienne one Zuchinni (I have also used Yellow Summer Squash and also Kelp Noodles when I was out of Zuchinni too)
For the Pomodoro Sauce use:
1 cup tomatoes chopped
1 sprig of fresh basil chopped
2 Tablespoon of Cold Pressed Olive Oil
1 clove of garlic minced
Celtic or Himalayan Salt to taste (I don't use alot of salt because of my kidney disease, I use granulated kelp for my "salt")
Mix all the ingridients in a bowl and let the flavors blend for at least an hour if possible. I sometimes also like to add a squeeze of lemon over the sauce as well. Pour the sauce over the zuchinni noodles. Garnish with chopped parsley or more basil (if you love basil like I do.) If you want to add some heat to it you could add either a pinch of cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Comment by LaTricia E. Morris on February 15, 2012 at 11:07pm I am SO here with you. I take great interest in making the switch to raw. I'm new on this journey and I've been working to pick up new recipes that we can all enjoy. A large problem I'm seeing is with preparing and planning meals that my husband and kids will eat, as well. My husband is open to try new health foods but that doesn't mean he's up for going all raw. I figure I can at least do as you and gradually but steadily increase my list of raw recipes. Found a few new ones I want to try. Thinking about seizing this late night opportunity to prep them for tomorrow so I'll already have healthy snacks on hand. Good luck on your journey!
P.S. - Would love to see the recipe you mentioned above for the zucchini pasta and the chili.

Congrates on doing this!!
Comment by Ayn on February 15, 2012 at 11:04am I am always looking for more ways to make ONE meal. A few things that I do, like you with the pasta... I will make cooked pasta for the others and I will have raw marinara sauce (so does the rest of the house..) I also do the same process for almond butter sauce with raw veggies. And I do veggie bowls (mix with some spices and soy, let sit, to get the cooked feel to it) and the rest of the family may have rice with theirs. I have not found a raw rice that I am crazy about, but other people out there have. Anyone is raw tacos, use all raw fillings, then the rest of the house can have a taco shell and I will make raw shells or use romaine lettuce to wrap it up. I do a lot of raw fillings for all, then they can use the standard stuff. Burritos, same thing, all raw (maybe some beans) and then they use tortilla and I can use romaine or make a raw wrap. Hope this helps some!
