Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Hello Everyone!  I have decided that today was going to be the first day of a transformation for me-mind, body and soul.  I have been vegetarian for three years (did it cold turcky), vegan for six months (bit more of a challenge) and now I am ready to go raw--at least 90% for now but I hope to acheive a 100% raw food lifestyle.

Today I started out my day with a tall glass of water.  I planned a breakfast of blueberries, strawberries and cherries, an orange and a banana.  Well, I had all I could do to get through the berries and cherries--I couldn't even get started on the orange or banana.  I was cringing with the last several bites of the berries and cherries!  It is not that I do not like fruit--I gues I am just not used to it.  I then drank another tall glass of water.

Also, I hope this is not too much information (TMI) but with just that breakfast and water I was in the bathroom to pee six different times within about an hour and a half.  Is there something wrong?

Alittle while later I was feeling hungry again-so I ate the banana.  On my way out the door I grabbed some sliced cucumber and to it a added sea salt, black paper and sage (are there any rules about useing spices raw that I should know about?) and an apple.  I had planned on eating this on the way home from the dance class I teach-but I got hungry AGAIN and at the cucumbers on the way there!!  I was able to save the apple for the way home.  PS-I wanted to drink more water on the way home but I couldn't because I pee AGAIN really bad.

When I got home I was HUNGRY!  I resorted to eating 2 stuffed grape leaves which I do not believe are raw and 1/2 a vegan sandwich ( 1 slice of ezekiel bread, vegan mayo, vegan cheese, vegan meat, tomatoe and onion)---needless to say I am NOT feeling too good about this.  And that brings me to right now.  Wondering what to eat next-althought that 1/2 sandwich is still at work!

Last night I baught a TON of fruits and veggies I just don't know exactly what to do with them-other than just eat them which can be a little boring.  I am thinking able baking a dressing for a salad from avodado and almond milk (which is not raw).   Also, I have waayyyy more fruit that I do veggies--is this ok?  AND, I love roasted brussel sprouts and I do have some uncook ones in the fridge--does anyone have a suggestion for these guys?  I am a little tempted to roast them.

Lastly, in the question I answered when signed up for this god send of a website it asked if I wanted to lost weight.  Well, yes!  I do want to lose some.  I don't think I have too much to lose-about 10-15lbs would be healthy.  However, I do not feel I am going to make that happen if I keep sneaking in these cooked, non-raw, processed vegan foods.  Please help.

I have to pee again! :/

Hi Ashley, So many great sites out there with raw food recipes.Including this one RAW FOOD REHAB.

I could list a lot of my ideas but I have too many to mention. I do have a face book page. It's called Addicted to Raw.  I dont sell anything I just post fast easy recipes that work for me and fitness topics.

I am not 100% raw but have been about 95% raw for 16 months and have never looked back. Check out my page and see if you can get some ideas. Take care and this is a great site to talk about all things raw. Keep going.

Hey Ashley how's it going? any better? I'm also new to RAW and read somewhere that chia seed "puddings" are very filling. I just purchased some chia seeds, googled some "raw food chia seed recipes" and am now ready to go. I'll let you know how it goes. I did 10-days of 100% raw week days and raw till dinner on the weekends. It was great. I also quit (mostly quit) the coffee and am surprised not to have any headaches!! Since the 10-day I've been doing "high raw" and it's going well. Also I highly recommend Mimi Kirk's book, I just purchased it and LOTS of awesome and fairly easy recipes. She has an awesome ceaser salad recipe I tried and fell in love with. Best wishes to you!!

Hi Ashley- thank you- happy 4th to you my friend :)  I have found that as I have eliminated salt my taste buds have really changed- so I am looking forward to enjoying things more and more :) I was finding on just the plain raw food diet that I was eating a lot of things that I thought were raw, that come to find out- aren't!!! Cashews, agave, cacao, some almonds, macadamia nuts (which are almost $20/pound, thank you!) and all that dehydrated food too- not good! Dr. Graham says that if he was pressed to make a decision about cooked low fat food or high fat raw food he would choose the low fat every time, hands down- that's how unhealthy FAT is! So I don't feel badly about a cooked sweet potato now and then... or going out somewhere with my husband (I try to keep it low fat and vegetarian). Have you signed up at cronometer.com? You will only need it for a couple of weeks maybe until you get the idea of where you're at... I learned a lot using it. It is important to eat enough or you will be very hungry later in the day... or even week or month! If you are hungry you can't just look back on your day, but also your week or month to see how you've been doing- it can sneak up on you ;) In the beginning you really have to eat until you are over-full!! hahaha We just are not used to this great volume of food at first.

Hi Maureen- I need to spend more time on M. E.'s page, but I do find that I need to go by my own taste and "cut my own pattern" so to speak. Time... schedule... ugh! this equals stress to me! I am working on my response to time and schedules, b/c this is a major stressor for me. I actually had to cut exercise out of my schedule b/c of the stress it was causing! I am so much more relaxed without cramming that event into my life right now. I am thinking about trying some yoga at home, but I have never succeeded at exercising at home- too much clamoring for my attention- I need a gym where I can get away from everything! I do follow 30 bananas- they have been very helpful :)

Good morning, Wendy! and happy 4th!  That is wonderful Wendy!  Something else that you said that I liked, "I like a marinara sauce on iceburg, but not spinach- at least not yet".  I love the "at least not yet part".  There are many foods that I have just not enjoyed, but I wanted to enjoy them.  So, I just kept trying them until, well I liked them!  I think that is a great attitude to have!  I am getting the clue as well that not all raw foods are healthy!  However, and that is a BIG HOWEVER, I also feel that unhealthy raw foods are much harder to indentify than your standard unhealthy food.  Also, I think 90% is great.  That where I am right now (for a couple reason) 1. I still have some food that I need to use up, not much but a little.   I do not want to waste it AND I think it is a great way to transition as that is how I became vegan.  2. I am not sure I am getting enough intake with just the raw foods, maybe I am but I know that I feel VERY hungry at times!  I have some new questions manifest so I think its time to put them together in another bolg!  I think I will do that soon!!  Have a wonderfun day, friend! :)

Hi Wendy , Megan Elizabeth does a lot of dressings for 811 - that might be useful to you. Hope you are getting the benefits you are seeking on this lifestyle. Durianrider is always saying -hydrate, lots of sleep and get your carbs in (30 bananas)

I've been doing 811 for almost 3 months now- this has been the biggest adjustment I've had to make! On the plain 'ol raw food diet you can find a recipe to match or even taste better than cooked food, but I've learned that just b/c it's RAW doesn't mean it's healthy! My diet was ever increasing in fat content and one day I asked myself- where's the produce?!!! 80-10-10 kept coming up so I thought I'd check it out. I'm just now starting to not crave fat and salt- yay!! But vinegar is still my nemesis- ugh! I LOVE it! I didn't realize how much until I tried to eliminate it. Those 3 things being hard for me to give up was such a shocker for me- fat, salt and vinegar.... WHAT?! So as much as I hate to admit that I'm still transitioning.... I am, but I believe this is the healthiest way to eat- so continue on I must. I live with a cooked/junk foodaholic so my diet will likely never be spot on, but even if I'm 90% I'll be 90% healthier than if I didn't eat this way at all :)

Wendy--That is just too funny!  And mine has been so clear!!  Its kinda cool!! haha Thank you so much for all your help and advice.  It is comforting to know that you are still in search of a dressing you like--just to know there are other people out there doing this and still needing to play around with food to see what they like.  I am loving this new lifestyle though!  I am having fun with it and learning some awesome things!

haha Ashely! I post on the wrong blog that someone bladder would be just fine! lol (laughing at myself) They were probably thinking... wtheck?!!  Meant it to post here. But yeah, peeing more is something to get used to- the SAD is VERY dehydrating! seriously dehydrating!! 75% of the American public is said to be chronically dehydrated- this leads to all kinds of illnesses and health problems- diabetes can be caused by dehydration. So as annoying as it is to be "going" a lot- it's healthy. Your bladder should get used to it tho, but still we should be going at least every 3 hours and urine should be clear (mine is rarely clear tho, but very close).  ;)
