Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
Did this blog entry a couple of days ago, but was in a hurry, and didn't post it properly.
In a nutshell, I tried my upteenth bread recipe, and it turned out like crap. I've tried all kinds of recipes from all kinds of raw food gurus, and they're all just awful. It's the flax. I hate it. It's gross. I've tried reducing the amount of flax in recipes, I've tried soaking them, not soaking them, grinding them, not grinding them, adding more oil, adding less oil, dehydrating longer, dehydrating not so long, turning the temp down, turning the temp up, cloaking the crap with tons of garlic, herbs, spices, veggies, fruits, yard mud, napalm . . . I bet I couldn't make it taste good if I mixed Betty Crocker cake frosting into the mix.
It's crazy. Being a vegan, I've often used flax in baked goods, and in pancakes, etc. I even sprinkle it on granolas and don't mind it. And Ani Phyo's pancakes are mostly flax, and I enjoy those too. But as soon as things start to dry out and become bread-like or cracker-like, I guess that's where it ends.
So that's it. I'm declaring a moratorium on raw flax breads and crackers. I'll stick to Ani's pancakes, granolas, sprinkling on salads, etc. If I need a sandwich or a wrap, I guess I'll use collard greens or palm fronds.
(Just kidding about the palm fronds. I live way up in western Canada. We don't have many palm trees around here.)
