Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Acronym Baby S.T.E.P.S. to enjoy the journey!

How do we get our sub-concious minds on board with our health goals?

I made up an acronym to help:  Baby S.T.E.P.S.:  Social, Thrifty, Easy, Positive, Steady.

I came to this place in my raw food journey with baby steps over a 16 year time span.  It may not take others nearly that long, but I did not have the facts and medical studies to back me up until recent years. Some  people do very well with jumping right in, and adjust quickly, while others like me resist change.

"To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."  Our sub-concious minds are very powerful for keeping habits, impulse control, keeping us safe, and processing all the new experiences of life into the previous experiences. Slow and steady changes create less of the "opposite reaction" from our subconcious minds, so we have less need to rebel.

Consider the baby step approach Jeff Galloway teaches in his Couch to Marathon program. Walk/run/walk/run. Beginners may walk 2 minutes, jog for 10 seconds and repeat for 10 minutes.  They work their way up gently, and are amazed that as they are actually enjoying the journey, create habits, allow their bodies to adjust, avoid injuries, and finally run a marathon!

Social- Share and be supported by your Raw Food Rehab friends! When meeting for meals with friends order 2 or 3 side salads (hold the cheese). Keep a stash of fresh fruit with you, like apples or bananas to fill up on. Dates and nuts are decadent deserts eaten together! Drink water with lemon and enjoy the relationships. It's all about love.

Thrifty- Grow food; shop Farmer's Markets; invest in a CSA; buy in bulk with a friend; consider fruit and veggies a medical expense.

Easy- Eat mono-meals, blended smoothies (sweet or savory), fresh fruit cups to go.  In the car, carry a picnic blanket, cooler, knife and cutting board, towel and water jug, then stop at any grocery store for fruits and veggies. Such a romantic lifestyle to create instant picnics and tailgate parties anywhere!  Helps create wonderful memories!

Positive- "Make the next bite raw.", "Dont' beat yourself up", "Observe how you feel after you eat and make adustments"

Steady- Add one habit at a time, and let your subconcious mind become  your automatic pilot (think of FLYlady.com)

Love and light to you on your beautiful journey! Stop and smell the roses.  No rush. We will get there.

Glenda, you Rawk!  I would love to know more about your journey. How did you go from floundering and pressing your way into what you do daily now? Did something click 2 months ago?  Creating your own party at holiday events is a fantastic concept.  This fall, perhaps you will blog about it to help us learn to do that too!

girl, you got it. baby steps. I especially the walk/run/walk/run. I hope in incorporate that in the future. It is really different for everyone. I've been on this site for almost a 18 months and it just clicked in and for me 2 months ago. What was i doing all of this time?? I was floundering and flopping and crying and pressing my way into doing what I doing daily now. eating the right foods and exercising and loving myself. I've got to create more new habits as i walk along this way too.   The last two holidays were great for me, I created my own party at the events  and people wanted to eat  what I brought for myself.  They were astonished that  Plant based foods could look so delish!!!  Thanks Supermom!!!!

Brilliant! so kind, and wise, friendly and do-able. I'll look at this list and see which ones I can put into practice to continue my journey. I've got a lot of this in place, and I can see opportunity for creating new habits like having the knife and cutting board and cooler in the car. Thanks for breaking it down in such a wonderful way!
