Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

I'm wondering if anyone here is suffering from arthrits and if they have found that eating raw has helped them significantly.

I'm 46yrs old, have a family history of arthritis, and after a battery of tests and CT scans the dr just told me I have osteoarthritis in my left knee, right hip, right SI joint and my pubic joint.  My blood work shows I have high levels of inflammation. My quality of life is going downhill pretty rapidly.

I waffle in and out of being raw, but I eat relatively healthily. I'm about to embark on delving into going 100% raw to see if it helps the inflammation, help me drop weight and in turn ease up on my joints and hopefully take some of the pain away.

Anyone have any success in this area? or advice? I have been feeling at a bit of a loss and depressed over this - and not at all happy with the dr telling me to take a prescription anti inflammatory indefinitely.

Thanks kindly

I have my info that being raw will definitely help with the inflammation. If you are in a lot of pain you can take the prescription to get you over the hump but I have always used cayenne pepper pills for inflammation and they have worked wonders. I do metaphysical work as well and my family has a history of cancer but I will not acknowledge that that will become my history, in fact I refuse to go there, maybe you could do some meditating and writing (journaling) about that. Don't use the label arthritis. Admit that you feel a little pain sometime and tightness and then do some small exercises or yoga poses that are easy. What is your occupation, and physical background and I will give you some suggestions. This can be overcome, definitely. You are young and taking amazing steps to get through this.

This is so very helpful - thank you so much for all of the valuable information.

Fingers crossed that in the near future I am feeling a little better than I am right now.

Hi Peggy,

I too have severe arthritis and since I have gone 100% raw the pain has nearly disappeared and I have lost 30kgs.   For me it makes my life very much better - I have learnt by trial and error  what I can eat and what I can't   Rae

Hi Peggy,

I too am 46, and have Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disorder,  a part of which is Rheumatoid Arthritis.  I went vegetarian, with a lot of raw food, for over six months and noticed a huge improvement in my pain, mobility, and energy.  Then I fell off the wagon and all my symptoms returned.  Now I am transitioning back to vegetarian, mainly raw foods, and juicing.  Already feeling better.  My husband is a real meat and potatoes kind of guy, as are my two teenage sons, so eating raw is a challenge in our home.  But, I feel it is worth the struggles to feel so much better, so will continue to make the effort.

Peggy you do not have to accept the diagnosis of arthritis, just because it's in your family's history.  It simply means your body is acid, and you need to alkalinize it, and remove the acids which cause inflamation.

You've already got great advice here, fruts and veggies are alkalinizing, and you should find much relief.

Another recommendation is to look up  Dr. Robert Morse, who is a 40 year detox specialist, he has tons of videos on youtube, where he talks about health very simply, plus he answers your questions on video if you ask him.  He would probably recommend a mostly fruit diet, with a big salad at night to remove the acids.

Don't lose hope!  you can do this!

The book I was talking about is: STOP ARTHRITIS - How I defeated it naturally by Alan Schlines.

I was a big meat and junk food eater and turned to raw to juices to healthy life, exercise etc...

Also so the very very famous THERE IS A CURE FOR ARTHRITIS by Dr Paavo O.Airola, ND

and he goes even further into raw, there are also all protocol of all clinics around the world that treat arthritis  thru food and natural ingredients and fast and exercise (always moderate).

Those 2 books are old and can be found in second hand bookstores also on amazon for cheap.

Raw food will lower your inflammation big time but you need to exercise (moderate!) to lubricate your joints and strenghten your muscles.

And yes, look at Bette's list!!!!

Good luck!!!!

If a person loses one pound of wieght, it releases four pounds of pressure on the joints.

Anti-inflamm foods will be more powerful than any drug, without side effects.

Tumeric is HUGE.

Ginger

Cinnamon

Wheatgrass

foods to assist in healing arthritis:

Sour cherry

pineapple

sour apple

lemon

grapefruit

cucumber

beet

carrot

lettuce

spinach

Best to you....~be well

I have serious ostearthritis in both my knees, kind of bone on bone. Yes, raw food helps a lot. Yes, losing weight (if you need to) is mandatory.

It is avoiding the worst food that helps, like white flour, white sugar, grains, wheat, gluten that also helps. And to drink a lot of water.

I was told by my chiropractor to buy a recumbent bicycle, so I did and that simply saved my life. On that bicycle you're lying, not sitting so the weight is not on your knees at all, then by pedaling you make your own liquid that protects your joints (in this case the knees) as well as your reinforce the muscles on the side that get week when you suffer (as you don't do as much because of the pain).

Thant plus swimming, as well there is no weight in the water. You have to exercise when you have arthritis, you simply have to. It sounds weird because we are in so much pain that it seems impossible but in fact the more you exercise (gently) the better and the more the pain goes away.

I am also very lucky, I live on an island so everyday I go to the beach and put my legs in the cold water (Pacific North!) and it literally shrinks my inflammation after a hard day at work (I stand up a lot).

I don't use medecines anymore, I did two summers ago but I stopped. The bicycle is my prescrpition now as well as my swimming (twice a week in a pool in winter and everyday in the ocean in summer) It is a big commitment to do all this but it works!!!. I work hard and if I didn't do all this I could simply not work anymore.

I will also give you the title of a book (when I put my hands on it) that I read about this guy that cured his heavy arthritis with a radical change of diet and exercise and juices and colonics and so many other things.

You can get better, don't listen to doctors (like mine) who says that you will have to suffer the rest of your life and just manage the pain with anti-inflammatory-pain killers prescription drugs. It isn't true at all. It is a lot of work from your part though but it pays.

You can control your inflammation!!!!! Good luck!

I do not have personal experience with the diagnosis that you have received, but have enjoyed the anti-inflammation benefits of :  turmeric root (root in salads, smoothies, teas) and powder, and also Aloe Vera Juice.

these are so easy to incorporate into juices, smoothies, salad, salad dressings etc as a daily boost to clearing inflammation. Sending you good wishes.
