Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
For the past few months, my appetite has changed. I didn't really pay attention until the past couple of weeks. I've been trying to get up to 75% raw, but for about a week, it seemed like every single thing I tried to eat that was raw was just too disgusting and awful. Dishes I used to love no longer had any appeal.
I was getting hungry, so last I thought I'd take a break and go back to a regular vegan diet, but it didn't help. I realized something was amiss when I thought about making hummus (a previous addiction) and it held no appeal for me. I made some anyway, thinking after I tasted it, I'd want it. I made a batch, tasted it, and it was meh. My old standby, toast, wasn't even interesting to me anymore. I made some seitan and hated it.
I finally broke down and had nachos and cheese one night recently. I was surprised that they weren't as delicious as I remembered them.
But what I've really loved lately is stuff like popcorn, pancakes (vegan), green olives, and scrambled tofu.
I realize I've also become terribly finicky lately, too. If I eat one thing, I don't want it again for weeks. For instance, I made a stir fry one night, and it satisfied me. But here it is, several days later, and a stir fry sounds gaggy to me. Ditto my delicious vegan chili that I used to be able to eat for a week if I made a large enough batch. I made some a few days ago, ate a bowl, and put the rest in the freezer. I feel like I don't care if I never take it back out.
Sorry to go on about this, but I've been thinking about it a lot.
I was talking to my husband about it, and he said "You were like this when you were pregnant, remember?" Out of the blue it hit me. What else is going on in my life? Why, menopause! So I did some googling, and yes, appetite changes are very normal during menopause.
Now that it all makes sense, I think I need to just kind of go with it for awhile. It's hard to shop for groceries because I don't know what I'll want in 2 days, and I know that whatever it is, I won't want any more of it afterwards.
Hope my appetite will settle down soon.
