Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
Summer is winding down (or Fall is winding up depending how you look at it) and I can't help but feel a little sad. I love Summer and all the bounty that comes with it. Don't get me wrong Fall has some great things about it too but if you are a fruit lover, you can't help but be a little sad.
If you are like me when you roam the grocery stores looking for your summer favorites you are noticing that they are starting to dwindle.
NOOOOO! NOT Yet,
just a few more weeks,
PLEASSSSE!
Today I was filled with glee as the watermelon bin that was so brutally vacant last week was half full again. Yippeee!
More time. I actually thought maybe I should stock up and buy like 4 or 5 but realistically how much can one girl eat.
I solemnly vowed to return before week end for the others.
Nom Nom
Makes my mouth water just looking at this picture.
Then there are these little babies....
Tuscan Cantaloupe or better known by his formal name Extra Sweet Tuscan Cantaloupe
My Summer Fling! We had not met until this last summer. So many seasons wasted!
I have to be candid, other than watermelon, I was never very partial to this melon family but this guy changed my mind.
So sweet and juicy!
My heart skips a little as I first search for him in the produce aisle. Will he be here or is he gone already?
Please oh please!
And then our eyes meet across the room. He's here!
SQUEEEE!
And then Peaches, Oh the Sweet Peaches!
We go through a crate of these a week!
Slice and eat, blend or slice and eat.
But we still have a little time I understand.
I can't even get started about the berries, the plums, the strawberries, and cherries.
Oh the cherries! Oh how I miss you already!
Sigh...
Well that is all from me. I am spent.
Summer partings are so painful but there is that promise that we will meet again next year.
I will dream about the time we had together in sweet anticipation of next year
and make due with your cousins while you're gone- HA!
How about you? Did I miss any of your favorites?
How are you feeling as your fruity summer lovers pack there bags to leave until next year?
Please share. Misery loves company. ;-)

Comment by Tami B on October 16, 2012 at 10:34pm Love this post! I miss the new and interesting melons they have in some of the stores near me. Also the white peaches. Mouth watering now.
Comment by Betty on October 15, 2012 at 12:37pm I miss watermelon :-(
I finally found a local grower that had organic watermelon - with the seeds, yay!! but of course, that season is over now, as I'm in Canada.
I miss the berries too, ah well, next year :-D
Comment by Rena on October 13, 2012 at 11:44am mouth watering!!!
The peaches are over for me--they have some in the stores, but they're all dry and mealy, not good.
I am enjoying the fruits that are in abundance and ripe now--lots of grapes, the first persimmons, fresh figs, apples in the garden.
