Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
I live at 9,000 feet above sea level in the Colorado Rockies. Up here, spring doesn't even begin to show her pretty face until around Mothers Day. And just like clockwork - here she is! This means two things 1. We begin to remember why we moved up here in the first place and endure 6 months of winter - for this gorgeousness!! and 2. The "it's too cold to be 100% raw" excuse loses its validity.
I was about 75% raw through all of January. I lost almost 10 pounds and started feeling better than I ever had in my life. But life happened and I kind of fell off the raw wagon. I've been about 30% raw since then. Somehow I've managed to keep the weight off, but I don't feel GOOD. I don't have the glow that I had when I was raw. Acne reappeared and don't even get me started on my sleeping problems. :(
Anyway, long story short... it's spring and I'm inspired to get back to it. 100%. Or at least 90%... honestly I can't imagine my life without a weekly trip to an Indian buffet. (Well, I can, but I'd rather not.) So that's it. I'm tired of being tired. I want that glow back. And I want to lose 10 more pounds by the end of May. I want to be healthy.
Starting right now... I'm going raw. Again.

Comment by Michelle on May 5, 2011 at 10:49pm Wow, Athena. This could very well have been MY post! Knowing you're not alone (and that I'm not alone) is such a boost in itself. I was 100% raw for two weeks and lost 6 pounds. I felt AMAZING! Since then? I can't seem to get back on the wagon (as much as I'd like to be percentage-wise), and I'm not entirely sure of what kept me so focused and so energized that first go 'round.
But I love that I want to borrow it; Starting right now.
I'm with ya!
Athena, I too struggled this winter. I am so happy the weather is warming up for you also. I can also feel the difference when my percentage of raw starts going down. I am working my way back up too!
Comment by Mae Jardine on May 5, 2011 at 10:36pm Athena...I struggle with this too. This will be my third 'start' and I hope that I can stick with it this go around...both of the other times I've started during the winter months and am feeling that I have failed for the same reasons as you mentioned.
Being cold & eating cold foods just does not appeal to me either...when it's cold, I want warming things to consume.
I think I am slowly realizing what my body needs/wants...and obviously if we are here again in this place, then more raw foods has been beneficial enough to us in the past to give it another go!
Congratulations to you on your renewed goals!
