Hi, everyone.  I have a question.  Can I substitute chia seeds for hemp seeds in my veggie burger recipe? I'm not sure.  Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

I substitute chia for flax . . . as I don't like the flavor of the flax . . . so the commentary below is interesting to me as well.  I LOVE the flavor of hemp seeds!

Chia seeds also gel and are sometimes used to to pull a recipe together. If you have any flax seeds in the veggie burger recipe, that can have a direct affect on how many chia seeds to use as they too gel. Are you making a raw veggie burger or will you be heating or dehydrating? These would be considerations also. As HippyDaisyChick says, "trial & error". It is all good! You just might be creating a great recipe of your own : )

You can, but chia seeds soak up a lot of moisture. You would not use a 1 to 1 ratio of chia seeds for hemp seeds. You might get better results with something else like sunflower seeds or a few cashews. again...it would be  "trial and error"
