Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

I seem to hear and read all the time how people have so much energy when they start eating raw, and I did have more energy for awhile after I started eating mostly raw, but it just seems like I am tired almost all of the time again. Some days are good but so many more are not good at all. I have been telling myself that my body is trying to heal itself of all of the harm I have done to it up until now but that does not always help. Has anyone else had this problem?

instintively, what do you FEEL lie eating. Your body usually gives you clues as to what it needs......and this could include some cooked foods. When the seasons change (and I live in a cold climate) my body craves warming soups and rice. My choice is to honor that.

When I am eating 100% raw I usually don't need much sleep for the first month.....but then something shifts and I need more sleep. I'm up to 9 hrs a day right now. I agree that nuts can really make your system sluggish, and you might want to try a suppliment - I take a multi B that gives me a zing.

I hope you find your balance.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one feeling tired. I love the support that this community has shown me, I am so very touched. Thank you all for your support and advice, I am taking everything that you say to heart.

Hi, I can relate. I have been high raw not 100% but about 95% for nearly 18months and most days around midday I get really tired. I have never felt like I had boundless energy on raw food.

I am seriously looking at getting a full blood count done as I think for someone who eats as well as I do should not be feeling daily slumps like I do. I exercise 5 -6 days a week I get over at least 8 hours sleep a night.

I drink a juice or greensmoothie every day and drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day. I have heaps of veges and greens in my salad every night. So obviously something is missing in my diet??

I have usually hear the opposite that most people feel tired after they start eating raw, because their body is detoxifying and then later pick up energy. I know some people vegetarian or raw becoming deficient, because they eat the same thing everyday. There is nothing wrong with taking a vegan vitamin supplement if you think you are deficient.

I soak my almonds but I don't dehydrate them, except for sliced almonds. I usually eat pecans and walnuts. I didn't think that you needed to soak them, am I wrong?

I've also read that many nuts need to be soaked and dehydrated again before eating to make them more easily digested.

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments! I really  do need a lot of sleep, I think that I could sleep 9-10 hours every night and still be tired during the day. I know that I have really abused my body over the years and now it trying to heal but that still doesn't make it feel any better. I do need to add in more veggies and cut down on the nuts. Stress is something I am also working on. : )

I still think there is something to be said about getting enough minerals in our diet. Even though one eats raw, it doesn't always mean we're getting enough nutrition. I've actually started taking a mineral supplement to see if I notice a difference. There are some things like boron, chromium, magnesium, vanadium and more that might be needed in the body. Best to you.

I agree with Aen & Supermom. I was always tired for the first few months. I Thought I would never have energy again. I let myself sleep & sleep & sleep, I know sleep is essential for health. I now have more energy & no more afternoon slumps. I get tired at night, when I should. I eat fruit for energy (a lot of fruit), huge salads & some nuts & seeds. Having green smoothies with a bunch of fruit is an easy way to get more fruit into your life. Don't give up! Have you experienced stress lately? That kick's my butt. Positive energy from me to you! :)

I too felt not much energy when I was initially eating RAW and I even gained some weight (not OK!!).  Then the more I read I saw that I was eating too much nuts, etc.  since then I have increased the fruits and greens and way decreased the fats.   I do feel more energy now.
