Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
My cousin spied a used Vitamix for sale (an older 4000 model) and was told everything works. Her only concern were a few small pinhead-sized dots of rust (?) towards the bottom of the canister. Should she just keep saving up for a new one or is the rust (if it is rust?) not a horrible thing?
Thanks from a Team Blendtec Rehabber! :o)

I got my VitaMix used years ago and it still runs great. I agree with Annette, there may be something stuck on the blade. Mine have never rusted. I would go for it.
Comment by Supermom on November 12, 2012 at 12:01pm I would call Vitamix and ask for suggestions about this. They have such great customer service.
I got a refurbished Vitamix through Kristina Carillo-Bucaram of Rawfully Organic Co-op, with an extra long warranty and it comes with a brand new pitcher. The final price was $350.

Comment by Annette on November 6, 2012 at 9:30am The blades of a VitaMix are made from stainless steel, and stainless steel does not rust. Perhaps the pinhead sized dots are food particles, or some other airborne particle that landed on a wet spot on the blade and hardened. If you purchase the machine, I'm sure that a manual cleaning by hand with a dishcloth or scrub pad will remove the spots. Worst case scenerio, you can get new blades from VitaMix but I hope it wouldn't have to come to that! Hope this helps. BTW, my VitaMix is 14 years old and I use it everyday - will not live without her! :-)
