and one last thing...my point was...cows and other factory farmed animals are the number one cause/source of green house gases! But can't talk about that!
oh, the book. Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman......it should be required reading for everyone on the planet.
I want to 'bean' all of those famous people who do those ads with their milk mustaches......I think even Susan Sarandon did one. Could not believe it! Milk does not do a body good.
And then meat........there are more cows than people on this planet. Everyone talks about climate change and green house gases....but no one wants to take on the 'sacred' cow, most of the worlds arable land is used to grow grain for cattle (and cows are not even able to digest grain properly! It causes their insides to fall out, literally..rectal and vaginal prolapse which tear the cows open, are common in grain fed cows), far too much of the world's water is used for the raising & slaughtering of cows, and they pollute the water and completely ruin rivers (by eroding the edges and turning cold, clean swift flowing rivers into wide, shallow, muddy, polluted, warm bacteria laden cess pools.)
No one addresses this..............as they would get shot, run out of town, create a ruckus, can't have that!
Just read the book..........it's a real eye opener.
Comment by Stephanie Baker on November 4, 2012 at 1:46pm Just yesterday I had a very young mother w/ a 2 yr old daughter that had lots of intolerance to milk/etc....and of course the doctors didn't tell her not to feed her milk....but that maybe her tolerances will change...gimme a break!! cut out the milk i told the mother and i suggested she do some of her own research. self education people.....imagine that....something changing my diet made me aware of....you have to think for yourself!!
Comment by Melanie Sernaque on November 3, 2012 at 7:15am Hello Jane,
Definitely, the best thing that Margaret Thatcher did was to stop all of this. But for exemple in Quebec,
till this day there are schools that still have the free milk program. I used to drink a lot of milk before, as
well as in primary school where at that time was also free so no wonder I had trouble with my weight :S.
My friend has a 3 year old precious little girl and she would give her a lot of milk, about almost like 6 or
7 big glasses a day. Her daughter became allergic to a lot of things, on top of that she suffered from
asthma. I talked to her a month a go and she told me that she had stopped given her cow milk for about
4 months now and replaced it by soya mik and she could see how her daughter was getting better :-), she
told me she noticed that her daughter was healthier and almost no allergies. So, as for me I really think
in the end it is very damaging in the long run(short run too).:(
Comment by Jane on November 3, 2012 at 4:03am Sadly, I’ve been reading this sort of information, and more (particularly the hormone issue), for literally decades. I think changes are happening for the better, but slowly. The ‘China Study’ helped, though is not without its critics. I know this isn’t an ideal example, but 20 yrs ago, even 5-10 yrs ago, you couldn’t buy a soya mylk, hazelnut latte in a rip the world off coffee shop, which I guess means there’s money to be had in soya products (well that’s stating the obvious). You can also buy commercial nut mylks in supermarkets – I guess these things raise awareness at the very least. I’m just old enough to remember a time in England when primary school children had milk breaks. Milk was actually delivered to schools and each child had a free bottle of milk every morning. Yikes! Fortunately, Margaret Thatcher stopped all this, though obviously not for health reasons. The media coined the phrase “Margaret Thatcher milk snatcher!” :-) Possibly the best thing she ever did in my opinion.
