Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
I'm looking for information on feline nutrition.
I want to get my cat the best food for his health.
Anyone has any books or websites to recommend?

I am an ethical vegan too, which makes caring for cats a challenge. Nevertheless, I do support them as the true carnivores they are. There are supplements you can give 'em in addition to giving them vegan food, but I personally don't feel this is the best option to support their health and well-being for the long run.
Natural Nutrition for Cats and Whole Health for Happy Cats are both resources in my library that I turn to. However given my current circumstances I am not in a position to prepare fresh, raw recipes from scratch. So I feed my three Rad Cat (raw meat you buy frozen) for breakfast and Prowl from the Honest Kitchen (which is human-grade, raw, dehydrated food) for dinner. I also make sure they always have access to fresh wheatgrass and sprinkle spirulina on their meals. They also get a leaf of kale which they LOVE!
My youngest kitty really wishes she was a human daughter, haha. She hangs out in the kitchen with me ALL of the time, wanting to get right in there and help. She LOVES veggies and some fruit, so I give her whatever is safe for her to have and she is happy. While she loves her veggies it alone is not enough for her.
Hope this helps!
Comment by Maria on August 8, 2012 at 7:40am Thanks! I'll check out the book! I don't expect to feed him an entirely vegan diet. It's something I've been thinking about, the question of pets and their food since I'm a vegan and believe in the ethical side of veganism. A cat is however a carnivore by nature. So I wouldn't opt out of animal based proteins for him. Thanks again for the info!
Comment by Janet Carol Ryan on August 7, 2012 at 7:44pm I don't have direct experience with this which is why I didn't reply earlier, but I do recall a book that my sister-in-law used with her cat "The Healthy Cat Book" which deals with natural remedies and nutrition for cats. It is not entirely vegetarian, but does have a chapter or so on vegan/vegetarian options for feeding your cat.
I hope this is helpful.
