Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
Hey everyone, hope that you all are doing great!!! Last night I survived a party and grilling session held to honor my nieces and my birthdays. I made 60 years old last week, thank you God!!!!
But, I had to really plan ahead. I went to Kmart and purchased a large thermal bag and before the party I loaded it down this stuff to help me make it through the night. I put in the bag the following: Cut up watermelon, 4 slices of ezekiel bread(2 slices for anyone who wanted some), red leaf lettuce, purple onion, tomatoes, and 2 kinds of boca burgers and avocados. I had them grill all of the boca burgers in case anyone wanted one( no one did in the midst of all those other unhealthy choices). When they were done, I made myself a sandwich on the ezekiel bread and it looked so delish, everyone was looking at my sandwich. So that's what I had at the party. I survived it and there was stuff that I used to love laying all around the room. I was not even tempted at all. I didn't even eat any of my birthday cake and ice cream. I think everyone wants to see me well or were threatened not to offer me any of it. Only one person tried to make me eat some of it.This was a major success for me., Memorial day was the first holiday I survived with just juice and now this party. I'm so happy, I really believe that I'm going to make it this time.
I'm walking without my cane now, almost all of the time and feeling great about that. I keep it folded up in my purse, just in case. Before the juice feast, I wondered if I would ever be able to walk without that cane again. In just one month, my dream has become a reality. That really encourages me keep going. My clothes are getting too big and I had to take in one of my brand new favorite skirts the other day and a new blouse. Yipee!!!
My glucose numbers are normal every day and every time. They were pretty much normal before since they said I had pre-diabetes, but they still put me on Metformin. Now some of my numbers are too low. I'll have to speak to my doctor about that.
I have also started exercising every other day, I feel much better and it's easier to get out of the chair now. No more sitting there and anticipating the pain that will occur when I get up.
Still no weight yet, since i can't find my scale and the one i purchased was not for someone who in the 230-240 range, so I took it back. I have to wait until I am able to purchase a good scale, but for now I could care less, since my clothes are telling the story.
I'm rereading the book "Veganist" over again and the promises that are made to people who start to eat a plant-based diet.
Here are some promises to those people:Switch to a plant-based,vegan diet and within days the weight starts to drop away, within a week blood sugar starts to fall, within two weeks blood pressure improves and with a month cholesterol improves significantly. Research shows that a vegetarian diet could add a good ten years to your life.
Hey its up to us to make the change in our lives that could actually save our lives.
Keep me in your prayers please.

Comment by Pam McMahan on July 15, 2012 at 6:13pm Glenda you look so young and beautiful in your new photo. And the changes you are making are really making a positive impact on your health! You are an inspiration! Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us.
Glenda...I cannot tell you how happy I am that you are off the metformin....again....kudos to you for taking your health into your own hands and making all of the wonderful changes you have been making. You are doing an awesome job and that is just so wonderful to hear.
@ mamabird....loss of a foot to amputation is a very real possibility if your husband does not keep his blood sugars under control...if he finds the need to enjoy sweets that are actually sooo bad for him. I do understand how hard it can be mentally, emotionally, the attachment one has, how hard it is (at first) to 'deny' ourselves a 'normal' diet...but the price is too high. I hope he can put his pride and attachment aside, as again, the consequences, the price, are too steep. Good luck. All he has to lose is the pain, the immobility, the fear of amputation, the very real possibility of death, blindness and more, all of which you know too well. His neuropathy can be healed. Please let him know this. He can go fror pain and walking with a cane, to being pain free...and walking with ease. Has he seen the film Raw for 30 days? The one about all the diabetics who went raw for 30 days and had such great success? It is well worth the investment to order this.....do it today. much love, Alessandra
Comment by Mamabird on June 24, 2012 at 8:31am Thankyou for sharing. I'm going to read this to my manbear. He needs to "hear" this story out of someone else's mouth since he tends to not want to listen to me. He's diabetic and walks with a cane as well since his neuropathy in his legs give him lots of pain.
Yes, the parties and reasons to celebrate are the hardest to get through but when we make it through these trials and temptations it sure makes us stronger and ready for the next one. It's exciting to wake up to read yet another successful story of what raw and healthy eating can accomplish. Blessings and hugs Glenda, Mamabird

Comment by Glenda Harris on June 22, 2012 at 5:56pm that is good.....but why wait to stop taking it when you know you don't need it? You employ/hire/pay your doctor to provide a service to you but that doesn't mean you should not take responsibility for yourself (which I think you are doing to an extent) doctors are not always acting in your best interests even the nicest ones.......you said it was making your blood sugar too low...that is not good. That is why I don't think you should wait for your doctor's permission to stop taking it. I think waiting long to stop is going to cause you more harm than just stopping...but I will stop. Sorry if I am being too pushy.
Happiness is shining all through your post.
