Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
This is a quote from Joyce Meyer's newest book, Living Beyond Your Feelings: "Dr William Frey, a highly respected biochemist, led a research team that studied tears for fifteen years. They discovered that tears shed for emotional reasons are made up of different chemicals than tears that are scaused by irritants or by peeling onions. The emotional tears contain toxins from the body that onion-generated tears do not contain. They concluded that chemicals that accumulate in the body during times of stress are removed from the body inside the tears of sadness. Not only that, but they contain high quantities of a hormone that is one of the best indicators of stress. Suppressing those tears actually contributes to physical diseases that are aggravated by stress, including high blood pressure, heart problems, and peptic ulcers. And did you know that only humans can weep? All animals produce tears to lubricate their eyes, but only people cry because they are upset or sad."
No wonder I always feel better after a good cry!

Comment by Alice on November 14, 2011 at 10:23am I had the same 'stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about' upbringing. Makes me a tough cookie, although that's been changing. I may not cry when something traumatic happens to me, but look out when I see something on televsion that has nothing to me, the waterworks start. I want to be able to really "feel" whatever it is I'm feeling and not ignore it, it will do wonders for me.
Comment by Sherry Ward on November 12, 2011 at 9:14pm I'm glad everyone was as pleased to learn this info as I was. I grew up like Rebecca, only it was, "stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about!" I was really glad to read this article and now I'm glad I shared it.
Yay Sherry! Thanks! I've always been naturally weepy . . . I cry quite a lot! I was told by numerous people growing up to "just stop it" but most of the time I couldn't! I'm lucky now that my boyfriend is understand and *never* tells me I should just stop ;) but now I feel better with confirmation that my tears are a good release! I've always felt like I do better when I let it out rather than keep it in . . . a hot shower, good cry, hot tea and bed are usually a huge mood booster for me if I'm feeling overly weepy/stressed!
Comment by Sassafras on November 12, 2011 at 10:29am Thanks Sherry. I had read this just yesterday outloud to my husband from another book that did not quote the source of the information. Nice to know it was a respected biochemist. I had been weeping for the last few days with no apparent rhyme or reason. Nice to know if nothing else it is releasing some bad toxins!
Comment by Blender Babe Julie on November 11, 2011 at 1:25pm Very interesting Sherry! Thank you for that! when my3 kids were small about 15 year ago, I would cry at the drop of a hat. Mostley stuff I would watch on tv or movies..I could never watch the movie Hook with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman with out crying, cause deep in side I knew my kids would grow up and leave home someday.....I know that laughing produces natural endorphins that are a natural feel good drug our bodys produce.....when I get over stressed or worried or lack of sleep something will set me off and I get a uncontrolable laugh that I cant stop,to the point I cant breath , but boy do I ever feel good once I calm down....thank you Sherry for your post, it is a reminder to me how perfectly we were all designed.. Have a great day..:)!
Comment by Mae Jardine on November 11, 2011 at 1:04pm Thanks, Sherry. This is really interesting and makes a lot of sense. Not only do I always feel better after a good cry but I have the best sleep too.
