My very first 5K for animals!!

I am very excited, a little nervous & feeling supremely lazy as of late!! I signed up to run my very first 5K for PETA~ People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals~ on November 11th. My back has been hurting, I have very tight muscles & ligaments in my hips (perhaps from not doing yoga & getting massages after the birth of my son 21 months ago!!) and no proper running shoes, so I do have good reason for not necessarily 'hitting the road running' right out of the gate, but I am…

New Here!

I'm new here, and have been playing with the idea of blogging here. So, here it goes. My voice is gone today and I've got a bit of a sore throat, so blogging will be great then, huh? I haven't really gotten sick for almost two years. I quit smoking at that time after my bi-annual bronchitis...the last bout just about did me in, so I quit there on the spot. Nowadays, I just don't seem to catch what everybody else gets, which makes me a great nurse for my kiddos. :)…

Recap of Nike Women's Marathon

I haven't been blogging lately because I'm at a loss for words. Maybe I'll start where I left off -

Nike Women's Marathon meant a lot to me. This year has been the most difficult and stressful in my entire life with knee rehab and being unable to race, single motherhood, the man, and moving forward. I've struggled with so much this year. So to race at Nike Women's Marathon meant the world to me. It meant conquering everything that has been holding me down all year - it…

April 11, 2010 ~ Day 2 of 77

So I'm technically writing this on April 12, but here's what happened yesterday, April 11, Day 2 of 77:

For the second day in a row, the alarm was set for 5:30. I'm not an early morning person, so this is hard on me. But the pay off was worth it. Left the house about 6:15 to go watch Texas Stadium Implode. It was seriously cool. The charges went off in the interior circle first, then progressively got to the outside. The explosions seemed to get louder each time, and the…

Me a Runner? You have got to be kidding!

I did it! In a previous entry, I shared that I was experiencing a new (and given my physical condition, a very strange) sensation - a desire to run!

My spirit was oh so willing, but my ankles, feet and knees said "no way". Although I had lost weight from my original 250 pounds, I knew my body wasn't ready, although every other part me was ready to soar.

So, every time I had a…

New and Not So New Dog Learning New Tricks

Well since last week I have been getting up first thing and getting my butt on over to the gym. I have been walking on the treadmill for at least a couple of miles and then coming home to take Lili out for a long walk. It all started because we have noticed that as good as Lili is, we have been coming home to hear soft crying and barking when we approach the house. So she is not happy being alone. As the good researcher that I am I have been brushing up on Cesar's book and his Dog Whisperer… Continue

Movin' in November

I think that some people need vigorous exercise. I'm one of those people! I live in Northern Colorado, and we've had so many snow storms this year! I've still managed to run some--even though it's cold! (The key is to dress in layers. You warm up right away, so it feels like it's 20 degrees warmer.) And the gym I joined in October when this RawFoodRehab started is super easy to use and has lots of fun cardio classes. Here's my November log. I started keeping track of stuff I did in the weight… Continue
