I started off the year with good intentions, and with only one resolution…to learn to love myself unconditionally. This year was one of the twist-iest, turn-iest, up-and-down roller coaster years ever. Plans at the beginning of the year (which now seems like it was 5 years ago) didn’t pan out; our close-knit group of friends has drifted apart, and my best friend, the glue, is in the fight of her life for her health (cancer). Serious marital issues, then business issues (which lead to the… Continue

In March of 2009 I started my RAW food journey. I know it will sound strange but it started from "The Secret and a Secret type workshop. After leaving the workshop at a holistic fair I ended up at a booth of a Raw instructor. It was the first time they ever had one. I started my journey by reading and watching everything. By the time I took my first class I had already lost about 20lbs!! I took Alissa Cohens level 1 class. I then ran into Penni's announcement that she needed guinea pigs. So I… Continue

These tarts are really simple to make, 'really simple' to eat, so simple that you are allowed to taste every single ingredient, leaving you as light as a feather.

With their elegant contoured shape, pears are an attractive dessert. Make a “poaching” liquid from beetroot juice, which lends the flesh of the fruit its deep ruby color, and add orange rind, vanilla bean, cinnamon stick, a whole clove, and a star anise for more aroma. After “poaching”, leave the pears in the liquid overnight (or for a few days), and the fruit will keep getting darker and fuller flavored.… Continue

It was snowing when I woke up this morning. So pretty and Jack & I got to be the first to leave paw & footprints in it. I love snow because it creates this stillness in the world. Snow catches on your hair and sparkles like starlight. A perfect morning for a walk with my dearest friend and companion!
Started the day with my requisite 32 oz. of water. I then fed the pups and downed 16oz of green juice. My therapy appt was early today so that's all I had time for. Which wasn't… Continue

I was soooo afraid at first. To think of what a sandwich would taste like without meat! Well, this is one of the best sandwiches I had ever tasted, and it was totally meat free :)
Avocado spread, hot peppers, sprouts, provolone cheese. I know its not all that healthy, but for the girl thats used to eating a 12 inch italian sub in one sitting, its a start! I enjoyed not eating meat so much, that I think I may start to substitute my meals at least three times a week. I really want to put my… Continue

Although I spent the first 20 minutes awake on the last day of this year thinking about the things that confuse me most right now I still got myself up out of bed with a positive attitude.
This is because I have grown so much over the last year. I can now ponder some of everyday life's more difficult questions and not feel like everything is the end of the world. I believe this shift in myself and my attitude is due to the transitions I have made to the Raw lifestyle.

I am thinking....I really need to do this. Will have to read more about it. And would love to hear from others who have done the juice feast and/or are planning to try it (new years' resolution?)

Good Morning! It is beautiful here in the "Hay." Cold, but sunny and with the most beautiful blue sky! I want to say thanks for the comments on yesterday's blog. It's so great to be part of such a wonderful community! In fact, I noticed some of you are nearby. Tanya in CT and Annmary in RI. It would be cool if we could get together sometime in a central location. What do you think? Anyway, I'm so happy to be back to mostly raw. I can't believe how good I feel today! Yesterday I had a nagging… Continue

Hi everyone. Just checking in. In and out of rehab for now. I am going through a lot right now with my husband's grandmother dying and my own physical pain. My pain pretty bad: I have a stiff back and spasms of pain in my neck and back. I can't wait to be home with my own bed and my own things. I am such a homebody. I am no longer the person who can sleep anywhere and be anywhere. I am particular because I am sensitive.
My husband's grandmother who is dying has been touch and go for… Continue

KNOWLEDGE! Knowledge is power. But it is more than just reading a book- we can all read a book and then order a pizza. In my opinion taking a class or better yet a series of classes is your best bet. Because it gets you beyond reading a book- you can talk to a real person, ask questions, express concerns or share your excitement. If you take a series of classes then you have a level of accountability- because the teacher will see you again the next class- doing a class once a month would be… Continue

My raw journey started a couple of weeks ago when I ordered a copy of Victoria Boutenko's "Green For Life". I don't know why I chose that book in particular, but it just jumped out at me on Amazon when I was looking into ways to treat CFS/ME. I haven't followed her recipes exactly, but have been inspired to use green smoothies as a way of eating healthy, raw food for the first half of the day. That's my strategy for now anyway. This morning I made a jug of smoothie from 2 apples, 4 plums, a bag… Continue

The focus of my news year resolution this year is to increase 100 fold my love for those around me. My first thoughts during this time of year normally are what can I do for myself that will make my life better for me but after having lived for some time now I see the need for a shift in priorities. I want to be a blessing this year to the people God puts in my path. I want to be more affection, have the capacity for greater understanding, be slow to judge, more compassionate, a better… Continue

From Louise Hay....
It’s a New Year!
A Time to Keep, a Time to Let Go.
This week, we welcome a New Year into our lives. This is a good time for us to see what is to be released, what is to be kept and improved, and what is to be brought in. Take time to ask and explore these simple questions:
What shall I now release from my life?
What or who no longer works for me?
What am I holding on to that holds me back?
What thoughts or beliefs… Continue

Well, I had a little difficulty getting back on track but here I am today raring to go! Not sure why I wasn't feeling it until today but no matter, I'm feeling it now and that's all that matters! Jack and I headed out for our long walk fairly early and boy! was it cold. It is 18 degrees here in the Hay with winds at 39mph. 2 days ago it was 40 degrees! What's up with that? Anyway, Jack really enjoys the walk so I persevere in spite of being really cold! So far today I've enjoyed 32ozs of clean… Continue

(Note: Day 4 of the Master Cleanse). I just had a temper tantrum of sorts, which is very unlike me. My poor husband has been trying to not eat around me for two days, and he thought he would make himself some scrambled eggs w/ onion, spinach, and tomato while I was locked in my room with the laptop. Smelling it really set me off! Basically, I want to eat, even though I know it will not be good for me to do so, just like years ago when I was trying to quit smoking. Only, I think these intense… Continue

Sorry, for the lack of posting, my raw friends. Today was my last day of work for a week and a half or so (I hope) and will get back on track. So tired tonight. got done with work, did grocery shopping, had a message on the answering machine that we were to pick up the amish neighbor's child from school (they get done at 3:10 pm) and we were both at work- neither of us got home until after 4pm (presumptuous neighbor). Panicked, running around looking for her. Found her. took her home. Unloaded… Continue

I didn’t write yesterday because I just didn’t feel like it. I was grumpy yesterday (day 3), slept late and woke up kind of pissed off (at whom?) that I couldn’t eat. It was a day off and I was home alone most of the day, so I took it easy. I did some work online, did a little yoga, and that was pretty much it. I skipped the salt water flush yesterday because the day before I feel like I retained it and I was worried about the sodium. Oh, yeah, and I had diarrhea like 20 times yesterday, even… Continue
