"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see the good that you do and glorify your Father who is in Heaven." Matthew 5:16

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. New Beginnings

Posted on January 12, 2014 at 10:07am 2 Comments

Wow! It is 2014 and so much has happened since the last time I checked in here. The biggest and saddest thing is that my mom went to heaven on September 4 last year. I had moved in to take care of her starting in May, so I am in this weird situation where I am living in my mom and dads house but without them, because my dad is in hospice. It is very hard to be here without her. Everything I see reminds me of her, and I miss her so, so much every day.

Last year was plain awful. It was… Continue

Don't Blink Or You'll Miss It!

Super quick update: Two months "re-rawed," still loving it, still taking off pounds.  Not sure what I weigh because I am being good and not weighing (it tends to mess me up.)  But my clothes feel looser and hang better and I feel lighter on my feet and less pain, so woo-hoo!  I have settled into a pattern that works: green juice upon rising, green smoothie late a.m, heartier raw entree for lunch, very light dinner like a big salad or just an avocado mixed with salsa.

Mom's still in a…

55 Days, Lazy Lady's Raw, and Spoiled in Portlandia

Posted on July 25, 2013 at 6:00pm 5 Comments

Time flies when you're eating lots of kale.  And sprouts.  And avocados!  I'm cruising along with my "lazy lady's raw."  Basically, I wake up every day and make a green juice and drink it.  I bring I quart of green smoothie with me to work.  I sip on that all day till lunch.  I usually have a big salad with tons of veggies and a few tablespoons of cooked beans (I am high raw, a la Hallelujah Diet, so I get 15% cooked veggies or legumes.)  Then for dinner I have something fancy--but I don't…

35 lbs In 45 Days...and MY COW What Days They Have Been

Posted on July 18, 2013 at 6:30pm 12 Comments

I don't like to weigh in because it messes me up.  I've said it before but it is usually a bad thing for me and I end up either binging or making bad choices (binging is a very bad choice, of course.  But I meant binging on raw food too.) Any way, I had a doctor's appointment and they weighed me on day 45 (June 15th) and lo! I had taken off 35 lbs in those 45 days.  If you add it to what I had managed to keep off (not much) from the days before I started, I am 52…

My up in coming surgery is going to be very complicate. I don't usually talk about it because of how scared I am.  But your son's journey has given me some faith in the healing powers of surgery.  I have to lose 20 to 30 more pounds before I can be ready for surgery first off.  That is why I do not yet have a date.  The surgery it self is a three day procedure in which the first day they harvest one of my ribs from my left side.  The second day they remove four of my lumbar vertebrate and form the rib into the correct vertebrate shapes. On the third day they pin or screw every other vertebrate to the next as to correct the thorasic curve and stop the progression of all of the curves.  The surgeon is unsure if I will be in the hospital for a week or six months.  He said on the best case scenario I could be up and walking and on my way home with in three days. I feel that is just a tad unrealistic.  But I am trying to be positive about the whole thing. This surgeon has an 80% success with no paralysis and the other 10% had loss of sensation or movement in one limb at worse.  He developed this special surgery in the 80 and has perfected it.

I have finally gotten my family into a position where they can handle life without me for a bit and I am finally really trying to get the weight off so that this can happen. It is still a little nerve racking because I am a semi educated person and I know how many muscles they will be cutting threw to get to my spine to begin with. I know that my muscles are stretched and shortened do to the erratic shape of my spine. What I did not know is how powerful the bodies ability to heal is.  Hearing of others going threw it and doing it raw is exciting and well inspiring.  I am hoping to be ready mind body and spirit by august of this year.  I have finally found a way to control my weight and I think within the next three or so months I could be down to my surgery weight.  I would love to hear more about your sons and your experience.

Thank you for getting in touch with me,

Becky
