Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 17, 2012 at 9:25pm I understand the general public's concept of sugar and candida, but it's actually the fat that is the problem. When fat coats the insulin receptors the sugar stays in the blood.... and you start to become insulin resistant... candida is a back up system for insulin to help lower your blood sugar (although it causes all kinds of other issues and is not beneficial when it's out of whack). When you go on a HCRV diet you must keep your fat to 10% or lower... it's all in Doug Graham's book, but others realize this too- like Don Bennett.

If you have candida issues then you should not have ANY fruit. Candida feeds on sugar. I would love to email you some recipes when I get back home next week. However, if you stick to green salads (no carrots) and use a small amount of oil with lemon juice as your dressing you should be fine. If you need additional bulk then add some walnuts or almond to the salad. Don't forget to add a small amount of pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds also. Just watch your amounts so it doesn't become high fat.
I know Wendy Geesey is big on the 80 10 10 diet, but that is not for everyone. You are already have out of whack responses to sugar so I would go with Dr. Couzens protocols.
Wendi Grant said:I would love to jump in here. I am not having any problems with sugar except I feel totally "outta whack". I know I have candida issues.....I ALWAYS feel better if I stick closer to a "no sugar" or limited sugar diet. When I eat a higher fat diet I seem to have more level moods....but now I'm worried about too much fat in my blood...maybe this is causing the candida issue. I think I want to try low fruit, low fat....high greens and high veggies....???? Some fats, berries and low sugar fruits.
I would love if ANYONE can email me some recipes that are Phase 1 comptatible.

Wells ladies I am very happy to report that today was my first day of fully committing myself to Phase 1 and Voila I have been running in the 100's all day. I just checked my before dinner sugar @ it's 107. I haven't seen this since let's see I can't remember when. Anyways I am very excited and I even forgot to take my mid day sugar herbs and I only took one shot of insulin this morning. Hoping to wean myself off I usually take 4 shots per day plus my herbs. I was running 200's-300's before ;0)... Wendi Grant sounds like you may want to start with Phase 1.5 since you want to include berries, but you need to turn the composting button off. I suggest you read the Rainbow Live Green Food Cuisine it talks about turning on your reset button and stopping the composting in your body also has lots of recipes ;0)

Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 17, 2012 at 9:48pm Oh thank you! Yes, I was even able to save it :) I make a yumi raw savory stew at night made from one pound of tomatoes and 8 oz of spinach- I also throw in about 1/4 cup of soaked sun dried tomatoes for a little extra flavor. Then I grate zucchini and chop bok choy (and a couple times a week as a treat I use 1/2 an avocado :) You could use cucumber and red bell peppers instead tho with avocado- it's so good- I crave it every night. I make the soupy part in the vitamix then add the chopped veggies.
Permalink Reply by Claudia Bentley on May 18, 2012 at 7:35am Thanks for the recipe. I made some Zucchini Angel hair pasta with the Saladacco Slicer last night with diced tomatos, garlic and Basil. I guess we were craving just about the same thing.lol My FBS was 140 this morning here's how they were before starting Phase 1 ( 196,209,244,265,229,Phase 1 partial start Wednedsay 167 and today 140.
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 18, 2012 at 8:02am That's great Claudia!! :) How long are you supposed to do phase 1? It's almost impossible to get enough carbs on just greens- yikes! but I suppose that's what's bringing your sugar down. I'll be interested to follow your results as you move along. Wish my husband could just pick an approach and stick with it for a length of time!
Permalink Reply by Claudia Bentley on May 18, 2012 at 8:31am The recommendation is 3 months however it does say some people pay have to do it for up to 6 months because they are extremely resistant. It all depends on the person. His diabetic program @ Tree of life is 21 days. I am allowed low Glycemic fruits. Tomato, Cucumber, Lemon, Limes. All Vegetables except the ones listed on the other phases. Yes I've had your hubby on my mind hope he gets the desire and will soon <3
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 18, 2012 at 8:45am Wow- 3-6 months!! :O Sounds like you won't have to do it quite that long since your numbers are adjusting so fast- yay!! :) I have his DVDs (raw for 30 days).... I think he charges something like $12,000 for those 3 weeks too! I've heard him speak on the high fruit/carb lifestyle and he's just not on board with the whole high fat thing being the root cause of the problem... there's just not enough nutrition in fat to justify eating that much of it, imho... just fat calories and artery clogging/cell choking material.
When you were doing the high fruit thing did you track the percentage of your fat? If it was over 10% of your total caloric intake that could be why you didn't see any results. Still I'm glad you are having success on this... I'm just concerned about the long term effects of a diet too high in fat (over 10%).
Permalink Reply by Claudia Bentley on May 18, 2012 at 9:04pm His book doesn't say anything about high fat.He says not too have more than a Tablespoon per day. Which isn't much. It's working for me and not eating fruit isn't for a lifetime it's just till your sugars stabilize. I recommend you read his books before you make a final assessment. Then again you aren't diabetic so it may not be the best diet for you. I say stick with what's best for you we are all different. Yes his his three week program is very expensive but it does include a lot of lab work. I would never be able to afford it so I will just follow the book.
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 19, 2012 at 8:29am I haven't made a final assessment... I'd be ecstatic if my husband would follow his program... just about any program for that matter! I know he's had a lot of success, and I'm very happy for you that not only is it working for you, but so FAST too!! :)
