Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Hi all,

I am doing very well this week at the 'hab.  By now my daily meals are approaching 90% raw. While I generally feel very good, my body feels very cold, more cold than normal. It could be the autumn winds we have coming in but my feet, hands, arms, whole body is just freezing.  Is this normal? How long does this last? Hot teas (herbal) are not really helping either.  Any ideas?

Typical daily meal:

no brekkie

fresh pressed fruit juice

big salad with homemade dressing

late green drink

small zucchini with cashews "mac and cheese"

thanks and love, Tulip

You are not alone on this one...all summer I was freezing...until I gave my thyroid a boost. It wasn't working as it should have. 2 tablespoons of Wakame in the morning and at night...set my thermostat right. I picked it up at the Asian market...ground it fine and added it to a smoothie...now I just eat it dry...and usually every couple of days now...it really helped me...maybe it will help you too!

Cayenne is awesome for warming your body, also remember you can warm your food up to 115 degrees. The use of a double boiler is excellent and if you don't have a thermometer use your finger as you warm it. Heat it to where your finger can just touch it.

Another idea is keeping your feet and head warm, when they are warm the rest of your body stays warmer.

Ill chime in with my two cents. I get cold, I also have been borderline anemic my whole life life. When I did down into the anemic side, I am ALWAYS cold. (And often light headed) I also have REALLY low blood pressure, with those two things, here is what I have learned.

IRON

Cayenne

Ginger

MOVEMENT- When I get cold or lightheaded, Ill do some jumping jacks. Even if its just 10. 10 helps! I swaer by it, other movement also, thats just the quickest and easiest one. I notice if I sit too long (I am a reader..) that I have to get up and walk around for a bit. I would look into one of those food trackers to see if you are getting enough vit/minerals, etc.

Good luck to you!

Hi,

There are some warming spices you could add to your juices/smoothies/dishes. I add some cayenne to my dishes to warm me up a bit. Warming spices: Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cumin, cayenne, turmeric, nutmeg.

Sometime I will warm raw meals/raw soups in the dehydrator, or even in a pot on the stove on low, stirring constantly, and never allowing it to get past feeling warm to the touch (even Nomi Shannon recommended that).

A cup of warm herbal or roobis tea also help. You could even drink warm cups of lemon water...that will also warm your fingers when you hold the cup.

And when I eat salads (including the dressings), drinks, snacks, I eat them at room temperature, not chilled...that helps a lot and also makes things more flavorful.

Hope this helps :)

Wow, Tulip, thank you for starting this discussion what a wealth of information is coming forth and thank you all for sharing ♥

Thank you all so much! I am so touched by everyone's quick responses.

I think I will try to take the chill out of most foods where possible-not heating, just warming in a bain marie or other.

Spices will ikely lneed to be added as well.  You're all right on with getting the fat grams and nutrients calculated and checked out.  My iron has always been okay but maybe I am low on zinc or other nutrients.

I do sit all day and try to get up and walk around, but maybe something more heart-pumping like jumping jacks would help more.

I suggest you add some more healthy fats.  Whenever I get chilly, I take a tablespoon of coconut oil, via smoothie or on a raw cracker.  It warms me up!
I'm with you!  Especially since I started my 30 Juice feast almost 2 mos ago (I'm back on solids) I don't think I've warmed up since.  LOL  I hope to learn some good info too.  :)  Hope you warm up!

Heehee, and I had sworn after last winter that I would do everything I can to keep that darn heat  bill down this year! Rolling out the sweaters, long johns, and double socks early this year... We will all be huddled together at the 'hab keeping warm ;)

I think its a combo of increasing fats, adding ginger/spices/seaweeds, and jumping jacks. xTulip

LOL!  It's all worth a try.  I'm in a class and I bring one binder and tons of clothes and scarves and such.  They all must think I'm crazy.   Tee hee.  That's okay at least I'm warmer.  It's definitely when I have to sit for long periods of time. Huddle in the Hab!  Love it.
