Real Food Rehab

No rigid rules, labels or dogmas.... just REAL food, for your body, mind & soul!

Hey all... I'm back after an almost 4 year hiatus - Good lord... where did the time go!

I'm seeking your wisdom.   I'm on day 4 of 100% raw vegan.  I'm experiencing all the lovely detox symptoms that I remember from last time I went raw.   Except a new one.

Both of my knees are SO swollen, so much so my knee caps are literally pushing out of alignment.

Now, I will preface it with, my left knee has been very swollen for months.  I have severe arthritis on the back of my patella, and I'm currently mid stream in getting 3 orthorvisc injections to postpone a partial knee replacement for a few more years, so the swelling of the left knee isn't alarming.  My right knee *was* a tad sore from compensating for the left for so long, but the swelling is probably leaving me with knees 1.5 -2x the size they normally are.

There is no pain, just crazy swelling.  I can feel it in my calves as well, because the skin feels tight.

Anybody ever experience anything like this during detox?   I'm wondering if because I already had some injury/trauma in those areas that my body is overcompensating trying to heal it.

I won't lie, I'm secretly hoping going back to a raw lifestyle can reverse some of this arthritis so I won't need surgery.  A girl can dream right???   I've heard of it helping with arthritis before.

You are doing the absolute perfect thing for your body right now. And yes, the detox can rear it's head in our weakest areas, but it won't last forever. I think eating raw vegan during a time of cleansing and detoxing is truly the best thing you can do diet wise.

If you're open to it, you might look into the emotional root causes of arthritis. I believe that every physical aliment is tied to an underlying emotional cause. Louise Hay has the most simple teaching on this topic. If it resonates with you, check it out. Her best selling book, You Can Heal Your Life, is a valuable resource.

Sending you LOTS of healing energy & prayers for the very best outcome! xoxo - Penni

The arthritis is from 6 knee surgeries on that knee and a patella fracture 3 years ago.  That poor knee is hanging on by a thread, but I will definitely check out the book!  Lord knows my poor body has a lot of recovery to tackle.

Bless your heart. Well, you're on the right track and the book is a treasure, regardless! Again, so happy for you and thrilled to have you back!

I feel for you! I have RA in my knees as well as osteo and sometimes when they swell up it's all I can to do hobble around. But one natural thing I have found that really does help is 100% enu oil. Slather that stuff on and in a little while you'll catch yourself moving around and not thinking of pain with every step. It is absorbed easily into your skin and seems to go right where it hurts. Best wishes to you.

water water WATER!!  drink as much water as you can possibly handle  ... then drink more!  Water is such a wonderful gift from the Lord!  If you are going through detox - water will help to flush out those toxins.

If you can get a hold of natural coconut water (from the coconut) that is also not only nutritious - but very healing.

Hope you start to feel better soon!
