Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
Help! I've been raw for nearly 10 years and the last 2-3 yrs. my digestion of veggies has gotten worse.
I use to have salads daily, and even before i was raw i had a daily huge salads full of greens and veggies.
Now every time i eat Any veggie that has fiber (lettuce, jicama, carrot, broccoli) my stomach goes into knots, pain, gas, constipation etc...
(all i have found that works okay is tomato, cucumber, and small amount of zucchini)
i take enzymes (for yrs) religiously but it has never helped.
Does this mean i need to cook my veggies again, and avoid lettuce salads too?
Has anyone had this happen to them? what did you do??

Yah, i'll skip on the smokes. although i heard about medicinal marijuana used in baking etc... my gosh i think there is even a recipe book or two. yet its still not legal that i know about. ive actually never touched any drug (but alcohol) in life b/c they scared me!
Lou Corona is Beautiful! I like what ive heard from primal body primal mind, have not read the book just heard her in an interview.
So im contemplating buying this, so i will ask you - do you make his coconut almond yogurt and use the probiotic he sells for it? I want to make some, but just have PB-8 probiotics here. If you have been making this - what improvements or changes did you notice in your health?
Permalink Reply by Pumpkin pie on November 14, 2012 at 12:06pm Jen, this is a great cleanse. try not to over eat, i would get heartburn on 8/1/1 from over stuffing myself.
If your periods stop add in more fats.
If you start gaining unneeded weight change things up, less fruit. If you start needing naps or tired after fruit meals - that's a sign. if you ever go back on meats - dont over cook them (rare is good) or slow cook and keep the fat on. i really fall back on Weston A Price when it comes to how to properly prepare and eat animal foods.
One more thing i will add - before i tried 8/1/1 i had a rock solid figure, toned and lean etc... i ate plenty of fat, only 2 pieces of low sugar fruits a day though. average days i had an avocado or 2 a day, coconuts and yes cacao, lots of greens. for example i would order a large guac. at mexican restaurants all for myself to cover my salads in! Boy did i feel guilty when i read 8/1/1!
when i went 8/1/1 i got pretty skinny at first then bam i gained chub over a period of months and i worked out the same. something about fruit sugars in some of us just is overkill. So watch for that too, in case you are made like that too.

Ali,
I got into it, because I was searching for a more "mono" raw version diet for a while. I was constipated up to 4 days in a row (after having some meat). Heartburn was happening at every meal. I was too tired to do anything. I saw the 8/1/1 plan and read the book, it sounded great for my digestive issues.
I grew up eating really processed foods, hardly any fruits and veggies. I've increased my fruits and veggies since I've been aiming at high raw food lifestyle, but I also had a high bmi.
Well, at the very least I think this will be a good cleanse for a while, but I will watch for signals of things getting worse rather than better.
So far I feel great. The heartburn has almost completely stopped. Almost no constipation. Teeth sensitivities almost gone. Energy up and very little fatigue. I think my body is loving the fruits, greens, and veggies increase.
I'm eating around 1400 to 2000 calories a day (I'm not going for the 3000). Mainly just eating when hungry.
I've found too that cucumbers, zucchinis, tomatoes, and bell peppers digest as fruits and with fruits, so that has helped to not combine them with veggies or salads. I have no digestive issues eating those now.
Permalink Reply by Kasey on November 14, 2012 at 3:59pm It could have been anything in that meal you ate. That’s why starting out, I kept things really simple. I got a whole lot of broccoli and made almond yogurt and basically ate that for every meal for 2 days. When I noticed my digestion was loving that meal, I started adding 1 new vegetable at a time to see if I had any gas. I only ever add 1 new food at a time. This way, I always know if a food is bothering me. It takes some discipline but it’s so worth it. My biggest problem before was adding new foods too quickly, then I would get some digestive discomfort and didn’t know what food was causing it.
I just use regular probiotics I get from the health store near me. I’m sure his work best, but I have found that each probiotic that I have tried ended up fermenting the nuts with the same results. The main benefit I notice from the yogurt is it digests perfectly. Before when I used to just eat soaked nuts without blending or fermenting them, I would see undigested nuts in my stool. I never see that anymore because I always blend and ferment them. I also don’t usually get tired after meals because a lot of the meal is predigested saving me digestive energy. I don’t use coconuts usually. I use 1 nut like almonds or pecans or macadamia nuts etc, and I usually add some sprouted chia or flax seed to balance out the omega 6 to 3 ratio. The only negative thing I ever hear about nuts is that they are high in omega 6 so I try to add in the flax to balance it out. It may be unnecessary, but it tastes good and it’s always good to get some omega 3’s in ya!

Permalink Reply by Pumpkin pie on November 15, 2012 at 11:22am Kasey - i just posted the results and recipe for Lou's yogurt under the "kitchen Recipe/ cheese, yogurt" section
I used pine nuts, i forgot about flax, but i will next time. it taste just like cookie dough to me! i seriously would make this a staple just do to how amazing it taste. not sure how it will digest yet, still letting it finish fermenting.
thank you Kasey for reminding me about Lou!!
Permalink Reply by Kasey on November 16, 2012 at 11:31am Cool, I haven't tried pine nuts yet due to them being like $37/pound lol. Whereas the almonds I bought were on sale for $3/pound. I haven't noticed the texture being doughy. It's not sticky like a dehydrated nut butter, but it mixes well with steamed veggies.
So far I am maintaining my weight and I have noticed a very favourable change towards better muscle definition and lower belly fat when I switched to a high fat diet. My teeth are remineralizing too which is nice. They were so sensitive on fruit. It's cool to hear that Jennifer is having such good results with fruit though. Gives me hope that I can one day enjoy lots without the teeth sensitivities and other problems. It could be that I'm not getting very ripe fruit too which is very acidic.
I don't know for certain what Lou eats either. I have heard he has his lemon ginger blast, a smoothie, and a salad each day. All I know is that whenever he talks about food he talks about the nut yogurts and avocado with lots of greens and to not eat too much fruit. His ebook is full of high fat recipes too. I just try to eat what feels right to me and pay attention to my body signals, but I am constantly changing things in search of my perfect diet. I still have some lingering issues but I'm gettin there ; )
Permalink Reply by Pumpkin pie on January 15, 2013 at 2:07pm Kasey - i added fruit back in at the end of December . I did one full month with not one piece of fruit!!
Now my teeth hurt again! mainly just when i wake up in the morning before i even get food in me i feel pain in some of my teeth. so i just had this thought that maybe i started grinding worse since i added fruit back? Yes bizarre! But my teeth were not sore during the time i did not eat sweet fruits so something may be tied to the fruit. So so sad!!
One thing....
i was just reading over this posting - when i say i lost a tooth it did not just fall out (like i have read about with the fruitatarian lifestyle, its main drawback for me) it had to be "pulled" out. It was a crowned molar that some how got another cavity in it so they had to pull it do to how it decayed under the crown.

Here are a few that came out with videos about 80/10/10 not working for "them" long term whether it was too much weight gain to bad blood work. Sorry I can't give you direct links to each video but they usually title 80/10/10, vegan low fat, or blood work titles and address the diet there.
You tube channels:
Liz artur ( her last name is artur ;)
Andrea cox (she talks about it in her blood work video)
Jolita brilliantdotcom
Kostayoga (think her latest was title "need you help" that addressed 80/10/10 concerns)
30bananasadaysucks (not just a website but a YouTube channel)
I'm sure there are more if you just do searches on there.
Dinise minger is another one who did a video (one with raw brahs )and a lot of interviews about what happened to her with fruit based diet.
