Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

Long story short, been depressed and had severe anxiety for most of my life. Finally got on medication a couple of years ago. Stopped about 8 months ago. I've been functioning just fine but I've noticed the symptoms creeping back up on me and I'm at a point where there is no more denying that I am clinically depressed again.

So I have my bottle of wellbutrin in front of me and I'm thinking I should take it (doc says yes). I don't know why I'm not. It helped me before. My mom says thinking you don't need your medicine is a classic behaviour for someone who is depressed etc.

I think my biggest hang up is "How does this fit in to a raw food lifestyle?" I mean it's not natural right? I don't know...

I am happy to report that with my raw food diet  ( i've been 80% raw for 11/2 years)and supplements;I only take my prozac twice a week.I am weaning off them and feel fabulous. I will try the kelp too.

I exercise more . I live in Florida and the sun and ocean are wonderful supplements too.

Thank you for the post. I appreciate it.

Happy Day to you.

That is so encouraging to hear Jeannie!  what supplements do you take?

I've had this problem my whole life, too.  I was also thinking about taking an anti-depressant, but want to avoid the side effects.  So, instead I ordered a special light for SAD and I'm trying to be more healthy with my diet.  I figured I should try all the natural methods of healing myself before taking medication.  Then, I'll use anti-depressants as a last resort.

Thank you for the tip on kelp!

Kelp

Kelp is a great source of iodine.  You can get it as a supplement in pill form at your local health food store.  Iodine improves thyroid function which in turn helps to stabilize hormones and therefore mood.

For years I lived with "bipolar disorder" (as they labeled it).  Meds only made it worse.  Started to taking kelp to treat what I knew in my heart was a sluggish thyroid (though dr. tested it and told me it was normal; apparently there is a very wide range which they consider "normal" even if it is a bit hyper or hypo-active).  Anyhow, since taking the kelp, this problem has corrected itself.  My husband is also pleased that I'm a lot lest "unpredictable."  Many mood "disorders" are actually thyroid disorders that can be corrected.

Just watch out for flouride, whether in tooth paste, drinking water, whatever.  It has a higher atomic mass and therefore displaces the iodine, therefore disrupting thyroid function.

Hope this helps!

I am studying holistic nutrition to become a consultant. I try to get iodine  from seaweed. I like the premise"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

My thyroid is fine.

Rachel: I take B complex, D3 5000.B12,krill oil( Iknow it's from Krill)but omega3,magnesium, calcium and vitamin E

I take cod liver oil for vitamin A.The B's D3 and omega 3 are the best for depression.

Nutritional yeast is good. I also take Rejeuvenate Plus HIgh RNA and High Protein Green Superfood in my morning smoothie.

I take bee pollen, maca, hemp seeds, chia and flax seeds too.Not always but some days.

It takes a while on the raw diet to notice a difference but the supplements really facilitate the process to optimum health.

Your welcome.  Pray you have every bit as good, if not better, success than I've had with them!  Was so grateful to find that this cured the cause of the problem for me, rather than just running in circles trying to treat those wild symptoms.  :)

This is very helpful LaTricia, thank you.  I've had a bottle of kelp pills for a while now and haven't taken them.  I will start today to see if it helps.

The kelp has greatly helped me and my mother (so much so that when she ran out and had stopped taking it for several days, I knew it without her telling me.  Her mood said it all!)

Anyhow, if not thyroid, could be from other nutritional deficiency, can be related to some mental/spiritual bondage (things plaguing you from the past, unforgiveness, old scars, etc...); also one much less comonly considered:  misalignment in the c1/c2 vertebrae which wrap around the brain stem.  If you also have trouble spinal/hip alignment, you can place money on this being the culprit.  Most people with this problem never know its out, even if they've been to a regular chiropractor.  You would need to find an upper cervical chiropractor to check you out.  This would be good to do even if you dont have spinal issues.  These 2 vert being out can create a whole slew of problems from blood pressure to depression to blood sugar problems...more things than you can count.

In response to the C1-C2 misalignment I just made an appointment with a cervical chiropractor this week. He says my body is out of alignment.AH HA there are no accidents in the universe. I went to a health fair and there he was  all ready to examine me.Will let you know the results. ~Thanks for your response .

Don't worry about your method of treatment not fitting into your preferred lifestyle for now...you'll cause yourself undo stress. Do what you need to do and you can always make adjustments in stages. A recent visit to a naturapath for the same struggles with depression and anxiety brought me much relief in just having her concrete recomendation for overcoming these specific manifestations rather than my collected sea of possible remedies floating around in my mind and not knowing where to start. Every single human being is unique in what they respond well to, and the advise given to me is not necessarily meant for you, but just to offer you a bit of hope, this is HELPING me. And perhaps you can find a naturopath in your area to see. My visit was not covered by my  insurance  but was well worth every penny. It was different than a regular doctors visit as there was no long spell in a waiting room followed by a ten minute interraction with a very busy doc quick to pen out a prescrip.  Instead my naturopath greeted me at the door and spent an entire hour and a half discussing my issues at their core and wrote up a plan of action including vitamin supplementation and recipes for the nutrients I lacked that, if re-balanced, could influence my feeling of well-being. For me, she recommended extra B-complex, a full dose (3 tabs) of a whole food multivitamin/mineral, and 5,000 mg of fish oil a day containing at least 2000mg EPA.  (by brands with reputations for quality) As much raw fruits and vegetables as I can eat . I have to swallow alot of pills in the morning but I do it for the results. My sinking feelings have leveled into what I feel are managable emotions...the kind I can reckon with and get myself dressed and out the door in the morning without a crying fit. And a raw breakfast sends me out that door to face the world with my feelings and energy on the right foot. Morning is my favorite time of day. I have the most power over my choices. I could use advise on how to maintain it from there, but...wishing you luck and comfort on your own journey.

You'ew Welcome!  I hope you find the great healing I have through this natural, medication-free, surgery-free, non-invasive care!

Hellos everyone .  I just found this website a few days ago and have found it very imformative.  I too am on pyschiatric medication.  But it is mandastory. I have not chooice about taking it. The medication makes me depressed and I have used Rhodilia Rosea which did help the depression.  I am frustrated becouse of all the information about how pharmacueticals  are like poison. I want to be healthy and natural but I ´m not allowed. The medication makes it dificult to work and I recieve a small pension with which I buy raw produce . I am abuout 80% raw. The raw foods really help me feel less depressed and more energetic. I wish I could find an alternative treament . a natural one other thatn the one I´m obliged to be taking.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am going off my medication now. I take high doses of OMEGA 3.  I am under a doctors supervision. I take 9 1000mg . a day.

or 3000mg 3 times a day.

It is working and I feel terrific. Full of energy and vitality. Make sure you are getting adequate protein in your diet too.
