As you research and live 'raw' how do you feel about being more 'natural'?

Here's my Spa question... As I have learned more and more through researching raw I've changed many of my beauty routines. I use a natural soap (no fancy additives), I use vit. E oil on my skin (don't put anything on your skin you wouldn't put in your mouth), I wear less makeup just because I don't feel like I need as much...

But, the hair... I've colored my hair for so many years that I don't know what color it really is. I know there is grey! That's for sure... but am thinking of getting a really short (and I do mean SHORT) cut and growing my hair out to its natural color (whatever that might be) and then letting it grow from there.

My real hair isn't very long right now. Maybe the base of my neck/top of my shoulders and I actually look good with a short cut... so it's not the hairstyle that is a concern to me, but just the shock value of seeing me 'au natural'...

Any thoughts? Would that make me a little too 'mother earth' (NO insults intended!) for my family who only knows me as Miss Clariol?

I think this is healthy....but it could take TIME to get your natural color back in through the Raw Foods Lifestyle. Remember Ann Wigmore's hair color went from Grey to Dark, but it didn't happen overnight!

go for it!!! I did the same thing - stopped dying my hair and chopped it off to get rid of the old color. I've never gone back...that was 6 years ago :)
it's SO nice not to have the color maintenance! both in the time it takes and all the money. buy some raw goodness with your savings!

I've thought about trying henna, my problem is that I also don't know what color my hair is anymore - I have a guess that it's quite dark with gray like my older brother! I had blond hair until I was about 33 and it has slowly darkened - quite a bit! Henna doesn't highlight so haven't tried it yet but thinking about it.

I 'think' I'm OK with being grey and if my grey is less from eating raw, then that's OK too. And time is not the factor... I just feel like finding out WHO I AM... not the person everyone thinks I should be. My hair was a dark blonde/light brown when I married (31 years ago) and my husband instantly starting talking about how I should lighted my hair. I've always kept it light 'for him' and now that I'm really starting to think I'm a grown up maybe it's time to be one... stop doing things just to please other people.

Would some grey in my hair make me look older... possibly... but I'm in my 50's for heaven's sake. Since I plan to take care of myself and live to 120 I think it's OK to look 51!

Anyway... thanks for the input... I think I'll picture shop so cute short hair cuts and then hit the family with the idea. I need to brace myself... I KNOW one family member who will HATE the idea...

LOL, Karla, that is exactly what I did I have colored my hair since my thirties when it started loosing its blondeness. I just go sick and tired of having to color it, the chemicals, the time, the mess, the expense, etc. So I just cut it all off, really short, boy short. and actually my natural color is not all that bad and I like my hair short. My hair has grey in it, but it should I am 54! Like my daddy told me about my grey hairs, you've earned every one of them.

You're right, you're a grown up now! I've started using much less make up and changed to more natural products. I've never colored my hair except the time I wanted to be a red head and it was too much trouble. Along with the natural blond hair comes natural blond eyelashes and brows and I still feel so naked without eye makeup. I do go without occasionally, but I sure don't feel pretty without it!

The more that I eat RAW food and doing research I too think about being more "natural". It is a little different for me being african american. I dont have any color in my hair but I use a relaxer to straighten my hair. The chemicals that go into relaxers are so dangerous. I would have to do a lot more research on how to take care of my natural hair. I have had a relaxer since I was about 10 and I am going to be 40 next year.

Hmm really touchy subject for me because I have been chemically dependent for 20 years (in this area). YIKES!! I know what my natural color is and color it that way in the fall and autumn. But go with blonde highlights and light brown in Spring and Summer. Have been looking into Henna to switch from the hairstylists chemicals. I applaud your courage to go au natural. I don't know how young you are, but I am 41 and not ready to reveal to anyone other than my stylist just how gray am I! Girlfriend, I think if you are comfortable with growing out your own hair to it's natural color, GO FOR IT!!! If you can rock the do, do it for you!!! I will cheer you on from the stylists chair with my Henna Hair!

Tracy, I'm 51 and have been chemically dependent since about 16! LOL... But my new short cut, the stylist says I'll be 100 % natural in maybe one, but definitely 2 hair cuts! So far the grey I see is pretty... really white verses the yellow I don't like... but we shall see...

I think as long as I'm a hairstylist I'll always be chemically dependent :-)

I love being a hairstylist, but I have questioned what I use a time or two.

I stopped coloring my hair last summer - I wear it pretty short anyway, so it didn't take too long to grow out. I had about 4 months of awkward gray roots, then chopped it off really short. The amazing thing is the number of complements I've gotten on my natural color! It's great to be natural again and not to have all the maintenance. Go for it! I'm betting you'll be glad you did.
