Hi,
I am starting a 30 day green smoothie feast and I am wondering if anyone else wants to join me?

My body is sending me messages. I'm going to try a soup type smoothie with some tomatoes and lots of greens. Maybe an avocado. Also I noticed lately with juicing lots of cucumber and melons they are all cooling fruit and it really does make me feel Cooooold! I'm in Canada where it's definitely still winter. I need warming stuff, not cooling! A good trick to punch up your metabolism a bit is to add a pinch of cayenne to your drinks.
Permalink Reply by kelley etzel on February 19, 2012 at 5:35pm I've been drinking cayenne in my lemonaid. The cleansing lemonaid with lemon, water, cayenne and grade B maple syrup. Also I am jumping with joy, I finally ordered a Vitamix! (Reconditioned from the company.) Tonight I am going to make my juices instead of morning.

I actually enjoy making juices now that I have my new Omega VERT350. It's so fast and easy to clean up. I have had a Blendtec blender for about 5 years now and still use it almost every day. There is nothing like a high power blender! I'm sure you will enjoy your Vitamix and get your money's worth.

And yes, I can get a burning feeling if too much. "Green for Life" is an excellent book and website and in fact you can find a lot of recipes from that author without buying the book, but by Googling and going to the website. I usually use about two big leaves of collards per blender.

Good morning! I'm curious about collards and green smoothies. I used a half bunch in my smoothie this morning (apple, orange, 2c frozen berries, 1/2 bunch collards), and there was a burning kind of sensation in drinking it. I ended up making it through half of the blender batch, but discarded the rest. Is this something I should expect of collard greens? I want to benefit from the goodness therein; maybe I should try using less? I also need to be mindful of putting greens and berries together, since the resulting brown I find a bit unsettling. Maybe it was the combination that made me throw it out. Thanks for your feedback!

Permalink Reply by kelley etzel on February 21, 2012 at 10:08pm People have teased me at work (all in fun) over my green juice, but today one of the nurses asked me to bring one of my books with juice recipies so she could look at it. She is considering buying a juicer, so I think that just leading by example will help people around me realize the benefits of raw foods. Tonight I juiced lots of vegies and made a quart of mixed vegie juice and also about 50 oz of green lemonaide. I had a bad weekend foodwise and have to get back in my groove! Hang in there everybody! Good health to all! Kelley

Permalink Reply by marie dubois on February 22, 2012 at 7:30am Can someone share the recipe for green lemonade? I haven't tried this yet.
I usually just make tons of mixed veggie and fruit juice. They all seem to end up tasting the same.
Permalink Reply by kelley etzel on February 22, 2012 at 5:41pm Green lemonaide: This recipie made about 50 ounces. 4 apples, 3 peeled lemons, 5 big handfuls of greens (spinach for me) and a chunk of ginger. I love it! I let a few people try it today at work and they were sold also!. It was quite tart, but I loved it. Add more apples for sweeter juice or stevia.
I did make a nasty juice (my opinion only) and I couldn't finish it. It had beets, red cabbage, tomatoes, lots of kale, garlic, lemon, lime, cilantro, celery and carrot. I hope to not repeat this soon! LOL. I am sure it was healthy, though! Kelley
Permalink Reply by marie dubois on February 22, 2012 at 5:59pm This sounds great. I had made it with just the lemons and apple poured over lots of ice. That's a great summer drink.
However, I definitely like the idea of spinach added for a good chlorophyll hit. thanks!
I think the culprit that spoiled your "nasty" juice was probably the cabbage. Hate the stuff.. never touch it. Eww.. too much sulfur. All other ingredients I have put together in one drink and it was delish.
Permalink Reply by kelley etzel on February 22, 2012 at 6:03pm I was thinking the same thing, I do like red cabbage leaves with avocado and hummus and spicy pumpkin seeds on it though. I won't be juicing it again. I called it clean the fridge juice! What a waste.
