Raw Food Rehab

Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

It's taking longer than expected to come up with the near $300 it cost for a good juicer, but I'd like to get started with juice feasting in order to get a jump on my weight loss. I've been eating 80-90% raw for almost a month, with only a two pound loss. Mind you I'm over 100 pounds overweight and previously had a horrible SAD diet so I've been hoping to have some more effect with my numbers.

Is there a way to do juice feasting with my blender? Recipies?

=) Did I write this?!? Wow. I'm in the same boat. I've been eating high raw for a month (I think you're a bit higher than me =) and hoping for a juicer. I've been drooling over the Omega Vert $350. sigh.

I haven't had huge weight loss either (well honestly did the first week but put it right back on =). But I have to ask, how do you feel? I feel soooooooo much better. I've been making that my mantra =). Its worth so much to me to feel better. That's what I'm telling myself. That this isn't a temp diet thang, but I'm changing the way I eat forever. And if I loose weight (which I'm determined to do) than that is an amazing bonus. I just don't want to put too much pressure on myself as i have in the past which only leads me to temporary, small weight losses. Are you feeling any better?

I have a vitamix, do you have one? Even if you don't. you can get a nut bag, blend your veggies, fruit and then pour it through a nut bag. Honestly, I borrowed one, did it once and didn't love it. It was so messy, time consuming and didn't taste great. However I've heard great things about it and seen cool people in the raw community doing it on youtube. So that may be an option for you.

I've been sticking to the green smoothies, I LOVE them. I know its a lot of fiber, but I just love them.

Re you doing a juice/smoothie feast, do you have Penni's book? I bought it and she has 4 options for great cleanses - a 3 day, 7 day, 14 day, and 28 day. I was following the 28 day (calls for juice the for the first week) to give myself guidance because I was eating too loosey goosey. Until this weekend my son had emergency surgery so I'm in survival mode. But i plan to do that again. I like the structure and make it fit for me, for ex smoothies instead of juice for now.

I highly recommend the book! You can get it from the library if you're saving for your juicer =).

Will follow this thread to see what others post as I'm in the same boat =). Blessings.
Hi there,
As Cari mentioned blending in a vitamix, and straining through a nut milk bag works. But if you're looking for a juicer, I own a Breville (a little over $100), and that's all I use. Yes, the green star and others are the premium ones to get, but when I first started juicing, I already owned a Breville. It works great, you will get a little lost juice in the pulp at times, but you can also just strain the pulp though a nut milk bag if it gets excessive, and that doesn't take too long. Also, it's a quick clean up, (much quicker than the higher end ones from what I hear.) You can also throw in whole apples, and whole peeled oranges etc, as the spout is large enough to accommodate this. On the down side, you can't really do wheat grass, it tends to spit it out in whole chunks. It may be a good "in between" option for you. Hope this helps, good luck on your journey.
Cari & Jazzy have already given you some great advise.....I think the Breville Juice Fountain would be a fine juicer and if you have a Bed Bath & Beyond near you, you can use one of their 25% off coupons and get it with that discount. My buddy Philip McCluskey completed a 100 day juice feast with his Breville and he did amazing.

I also juice in my Vita Mix sometime, blending all my fruits & veggies with water and then straining. It is certainly an option. Also check out the Liquid Lounge here at RFR for additional juice recipes!
I'm currently juice feasting with just my Vitamix and nut milk bags. I have 5 bags, so if they get holes I can double up. It works great for juicing greens and clean up is pretty simple.
I juice with a $35.00 Hamilton Beach juicer from Wal-mart. I've had over 10 yrs.
I just heard a Consumer Report this morning that the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth (or something like that) is the best buy for under $300 range. I'm going to try to find one. They said the Jack LeLane one jams often, but didn't mention any others.
Yes, it is possible. I splurged on a Vitamix (early Mother's Day gift to myself!) and use a nut milk bag to strain the juice. I used to have a Breville JE95xl juicer and the pulp is actually much drier using the blender and nut milk bag. Plus cleanup of the blender and nut milk bag is lot easier than cleaning all of the juicer parts. I am much happier with the Vitamix because it is so versatile.

Apple, celery, spinach, lettuce is my fave green juice combo. Penni's book also has great juice recipes.
The Jack Lalanne does clog up quite a bit if you try being too forceful :S I just want my juice darnit! :) I wouldn't recommend the Jack Lalanne, I have one and the chamber has clogged on me a couple times :( I had a juiceman jr. before and it was fine, i just felt that there was a lot of juice left in the pulp and took longer to clean. I liked the juiceman better though.
