I am eating raw organic cacao nibs with breakfast everyday. Already soaking the sunflower seeds and walnuts I add to this recipe. Two questions:
1. Should cacao nibs be soaked and rinsed to remove harmful substances also, or don't they contain any? If so, does anyone know how long to soak?
2. My sunflower seeds always shed their outer skin after soaking, but I can't seem to weed these skins out from the soak water and, after draining, I wind up eating them too. Any tricks?

Permalink Reply by Audrey Reader on April 7, 2012 at 9:00am I had a bad experience eating raw cocoa powder. It may not happen with the nibs. I got a rash all over my back. I couldn't figure it out for a while, then I started thinking what was different. I watched a video on You Tube from Kevin Gianni (Renegade Health Show) He shared his experience with raw cocoa. It was very similar to mine! The rash took more than a month to completely go away after I stopped eating the raw cocoa.
The sunflower seeds you may have to get a different brand that doesn't have the skins on them. I don't have that with mine.

As far as soaking the seeds , i saw a video where they just fill the bowl up with water a few inches above the seeds . The skins will float to the top and you just skim off as much as you can with a big spoon. It worked pretty well for me. I think the video was from Kristen goes Raw ( i may have the name wrong) . i know she is from Arizona. Just google Kristen raw and you should find her site. :0)
