Real Food Rehab

No rigid rules, labels or dogmas.... just REAL food, for your body, mind & soul!

Hi there,

I am into raw food again after making a delicious zucchini "pasta" with basil pesto.

I wanted to ask to those with more experience how long should I soak grains for. I really like the idea of being able to eat raw, soaked brown rice but It has been soaking for 24 hours and still it's far from being eatable.

Please, tell me the soaking time for brown rice, and by any chance, could you soak quinoa and barley as well?

Ideally it would be great to have like a chart with the grain and the amount soaking time.

Please support a newbie in his quest toward healthier eating.

Thanks :-)

Have you googled a soaking chart for grains?

I have never had good luck with soaking and sprouting brown rice - at least in making it truly digestible.

quinoa is much less complicated - other than how much you have to rinse it to get the bitter taste out and barley soaks and sprouts beautifully.

Hi Penni,

May I just say that I am a big fan of yours?

Thanks for the suggestion, now I have googled chart for soaking and I have found this useful page: http://www.yogitrition.com/soaking-grains-beans-nuts-and-seeds-101/

I will look some more though. Yet I'd love some tips from our more experienced friends.

Thanks Domenico - looking forward to hearing more personal experiences from our community as well!
