Tolerating raw foods

I have a touchy gut (IBS).  I'm not sure if eating a lot of raw foods will irritate it more.  Any one have experience with this?  I'll probably just have to see what foods I can tolerate and how much.Continue

Sherry - I was glad to see your post about feeling hungry unless I eat bread! That's where I am right now. I think I need some avacado or something like that in my diet. I'm eating practically no fat, except for the bread. I know I need to make some dietary adjustments, but I just wanted to tell you that I feel the same way you were feeling when you posted. Have you found a way to bypass the bread?

Thanks Mary, I will remember that what I feel and what is true is not the same.  Have you ever heard that if you don't want an apple when you are hungry, you're not really hungry?  It's using food for feeling something else, like eating when you're bored or sad.  In addition, we should not feel real hunger if we are eating nutrient dense foods according to some experts. So, what you said does resonate with me.  Whenever I mindlessly eat I say to myself, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!  Do you make your own dehydrated crackers and breads made with vegetables and seeds?  I do not have a dehydrator, do you?  I wish you luck in returning to  your raw food.  I, too, have joint pain from arthritis. It's fortunately only in my hands at this time.

Sherry, I definitely feel this and have read quite a bit about it.  What I've learned is that what we feel and what is true is not the same.  Because we've eaten a certain way for so long, it's difficult for our minds to believe that our bodies are full until we have a certain feeling in our tummies.  Sometimes, we just need to allow our minds to adjust to a different feeling in our stomach by not reverting back to the eating of bread.  Or, to try to eat dehydrated crackers and breads (made of vegetables and seeds instead of grains) long enough for our body/mind connection to adjust.

I, too, have gotten away from 100% raw -- even high raw -- and am going back to it because of the weight and joint pain that's returned with my playing fast and loose with my raw food regimen.

Hello.  I am eating about raw about 40% of the time because I can't seem to feel full unless I have bread.  Any one else experience this, too?

Hi Everyone, I haven't been on RFR or this thread for a long time.  Life has been very full this last spring and summer and my eating and weight is suffering for it.  We were hit by Colorado's High Park Fire and were evacuated with moments to spare.  We didn't lose our house, but the fire burned all the way down to the house itself and our firefighters had to fight the fire 3 times to save it.  We were evacuated twice for 16 days all total.  One benefit of eating a vegan, raw food diet, is that we were the ONLY ones in our neighborhood who didn't have to throw away our refrigerator.  After almost three weeks with no power ... the odors that permeated their refrigerators, freezers and even homes from bad meat was unbelievable.  Not true in our house.

After that, my husband and I and two dogs moved to the Oregon coast.  We still have the CO house that will have to be sold, but we are ready for a new adventure.  All the changes have however been disconcerting and I've been doing quite a bit of emotional eating.  I am so grateful for all of you and to Penni and Susan who keep RFR going no matter what.  Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Good day to all. I am finding that other people my age scoff at the idea of trying anything new to help themselves. A simple change in diet is all it takes to prevent illnesses. Others my age are on an arm long list of meds...have ailments that are to long to pronounce. I myself just keep searching for anything new to improve my health and am not afraid to try new things! I am so not ready for the rocking chair just yet! Juice toast to you today!

Hello everyone! I have been Raw for over year off and on, more off. I saw/heard the results of raw and prayers Sunday. A man at church was diagnosed with cancer, went thru surgery and was suppose to start chemo. I had been bringing raw snacks to his wife's prayer group. He refused chemo (May10) and started reading everything raw and changed his diet. Sunday he announced he was cancer free!! Thank you Lord!!

Cas, you feel better after 9 days!!! This is fabulous!!! Keep going and you'll feel better and better. To my point of view there is no age to start to get better. Even if you were a 100 I would say the same! Keep going, consistancy is the key to success (or one of them)
