Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
Last week we checked out Will Bowen's book,
(This book is available for purchase through the RFR Amazon Store.)
Whenever you have the urge to GRIPE and complain this week, think about this:
Why People Complain
There are five basic reasons why people complain remembered by the acronym G.R.I.P.E.:
Get Attention
Remove Responsibility
Inspire Envy
Power
Excuse Poor Performance
Get Attention
The primary need people have is to connect with others. A person may complain to a stranger about the weather or the local sports team as a means of starting a conversation.
Remove Responsibility
People will complain to avoid trying to improve society and themselves.
Inspire Envy
A complaint may be a cry of superiority. It implies that the complainer feels they don't have whatever fault they are complaining about.
Power
People often complain to incite others to abandon an alliance and switch to their point of view, and/or build support and power by focusing on what's wrong with another's position.
Excuse Poor Performance
A person about to sing before a group may complain they have a scratchy throat to lower the expectations should they not sing well.
I gave you alot of homework last week...you may want to work on it more this week.
It has been said that in order to "really get something", we need to hear it, read it, see it, etc...
To assist you and to refresh your mind and to give you the info in another form, here is a video lecture by Will Bowen..Enjoy!

If you do not have time to watch these in one sitting, take it a few videos at a time!

Yes, week five was a lot of homework but well worth the effort. Thanks Susan : )
I watched the first of these videos and will be back for the rest as time permits. Right now, I'm liking the way it was explained that sticking to & telling the facts is not complaining. . . the facts are neutral.
Have a great day, Susan : )
