Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!
Hi, I'm new here and relatively new to the concept of raw foods, but my experience so far has been great. I have been learning about raw food diet and recipes for over a month now.
I would like to invest on appliances such as a high speed blender and a dehydrator.
My question is, if you can buy only one of these at the moment, which would you recommend to buy first, a blender or a dehydrator? I wonder what would give me more range as a beginner.
I already have an old Osterizer blender...

It allows me to make nice raw sauces and faux cheeses (cauliflower, salt, garlic and white onion makes a great, near-fatless "cheese" in the processor!). That said, though, I have nothing at all to really snack on but whole fruits and veggies or soups. When I want a snack, I'd much prefer to have some sort of dehydrated 'chip'.
Sooo, if you think you'll want to snack the dehydrator sounds like the way to go. Otherwise, blend blend blend!

Permalink Reply by Kathleen Kelly on August 28, 2012 at 4:01pm you can get a cheap dehydrator from walmart or use the over on low with the door open till you can get a good dehydrator
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on August 28, 2012 at 4:05pm Blender- hands down, no questions asked! I actually have my dehydrator on craigslist.com now! Use my Vitamix at least once a day if not more sometimes.
Permalink Reply by Sharon Reeves on August 28, 2012 at 9:01pm I couldn't live without my high speed blender. When I started this journey I tried to use my old blender. Since getting a high speed blender I have found new things to eat (like hot, raw soups) and am able to keep variety in my life. I would like to try a dehydrator some day but I'm glad I spent my dollars on the blender.
Permalink Reply by Leyla on August 28, 2012 at 10:32pm Yes, my inclination has been to get the blender. Your opinions are confirming my feelings. Thank you...
Now the next decision will be the vitamix or the blendtec.. so many things to ponder!
Permalink Reply by Sharon Reeves on August 28, 2012 at 10:38pm Leyla....I couldn't afford either. I bought a Healthmaster (1200 watts, 2 HP). It's the blender that Montel Williams sells. I love it. You can get it brand new but cheaper (less than $200.00) than the infomercials on eBay. Just search Health master blender.. I use mine at least once each day!

Permalink Reply by LaWayne Freeman on October 13, 2012 at 10:45am I use my dehydrator quite often, but my Vitamix is an every day (sometimes several times a day) piece of equipment. Get the best one you can afford, or you'll be replacing it often. My boss learned this the hard way after he started drinking green smoothies and had to replace his blender at least yearly.
