I just came home from a Hatha class I attend every Monday. I love this class. I have fallen asleep during corpse pose!
When I do yoga I usually go to Bikram - I love it and really wish I could afford to go more often. I used to go once a week [$15 a class and I can't afford a package] I'm spending the bulk of my extra money on getting raw staples and saving for a vitamix...maybe once the new year starts I can commit to going more often.
I went to my first ever yoga class this evening. It's Hatha. Whew! I have a lot to learn is all I can say right now. Lots of adjusting to do. The instructor is very knowledgeable and has done yoga in 1970. There's only 4 students so far and it's in a friend's home. Three of us are beginners, so at least I don't feel awkwardness about that. I guess what I noticed most is coordinating my breathing with movements did not go well. But I was able to get into the poses more easily than I expected, but of course they aren't advanced poses.
Dory I know what you mean about the quiet, the mind chatter does affect yoga. You can fly here on Mondays and go to class with me!

Kristina, I wish there was a class nearby for Bikram, they are in the city during the week at the templ, but by time work and other things to get done I just can't do it now. You will love your Vita-mix.

Robin, you will be a pro before long. I just listen to my body, I am one of the oldest in my class but I was the first student of this teacher for over three years. Some poses I just cannot do. The younger girls can do them. I told my teacher last nite I wish we could video tape the beginnng and end of the class to show how much more flexible we've become.

There is a Mexican Cafe that my teacher and I go from time to time on Saturday Mornings for Yoga then brunch. The owner teaches the class and then he prepares the vegan lunch. That is such a treat.
We have to practice quietness for 15 minutes during brunch , we had to eat in silence. A huge challenge for me.
Melodie, you can start with a mat. The mat gives you stability so you don't lose you balance, no slipping and sliding. TJ Maxx always has tons really at a good price. I would rent or go to the library before you buy. Also park districts have classes too, maybe you can try a class before you decide! Either way I wish you well on this too. I really think yoga is a practice suitable for everyone regardless of age or flexibility. We have a woman in our class , who is well into her 70's just started yoga and she is what I aspire to be!

I love hot yoga! I go every morning before work :)
M, W, F is Vinyasa and Tu/Th is Hatha. I try to go on the weekend too, but that doesn't always work out.
I started going in February and totally got hooked on it. I have noticed a huge difference in my flexibility & strength. Yoga has also helped my knee problems - my knees used to hurt a lot when I would run, and that has gone down dramatically!
I cannot find a place that offers hot yoga. That would be great during the winter.

Robin & I started a beginners class last evening. It was enjoyable. I do not know what yoga it was but I managed to do all the poses. I am a little sore today. I took karate for several years when I was young and was able to relate to the breathing, forms and meditations. We are scheduled to take the class for 7 more weeks. Two thumbs up or maybe one palm up one palm down and spin.
We have a couple of guys in our class too. A 68 year old man that just came back from India, he met a Dali Lama in training! Let me say this here, he was more flexible than I

This is where my teacher took classes and received her certification and I want to take a class there.
Thanks for posting. I went to the Online Inspiration tab on that site and listened to a meditation. I'm sure you look forward to taking a class there.
