I just checked out your web page I'm an NSP member too :)...Can he take the Sugar Reg or Nopal with the allergies? The Jarrow Alpha Lipoc Acid works wonders for me too. Metfomin is made from the herb Goats Rue but I have trouble with it because of digestion. I hate to say this but your hubby may have to get on insulin to get him under control, since he can't stick to the diet. Unfortunately I've been taking it along with herbs for several years because I can't tolerate Metformin. He's got to decide a shot or my organs. Insulin isn't good for you either it causes inflammation and weight gain but his pancreas may be pooped out already and stopped producing. I would rather take a shot than feel lethargic all day and get organ and nerve damage. The ALA is also great to help protect his nerves. My goal is to eventually get off the insulin...Get him on the herbs...the allergies are his Lymph being backed up....Read the Miracle Detox Source Book by Dr Robert Morse if you haven't already. The root of most diseases are toxicity and over acidity. The poor man needs to Detox which is true Naturopathy. I would be scared and upset too but really the foods today are highly addicting and we have forgotten how to eat. We need to get back to nature and eat what God intended for us to eat in the beginning <3
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 16, 2012 at 2:51pm You're preaching to the choir sister!! ;-) I totally agree with everything you said. I'd better not read the miracle book for Morse, or I'd start up nagging again! Every time he tries to detox he gets so darn sick (do ya think?!!) that he just can't take it and quits :( I know... he's very toxic/acidic... I know, yet NOTHING I can do about it except live my healthy life in front of him and offer him my food to try (mostly he looks at it, turns up his nose and says NO THANKS, lol) I too think he should go on insulin... need to talk to him some more. Thanks for the NSP info- I'm very new so I don't know a whole lot. I basically think supps are like.... herbal allopathic medicine... still not getting to the root/cause.... just putting a band aid on what's there. But in some cases I know it's needful- like for you and the ALA, and also a lot of people are B 12 deficient... so in some instances it's just needful for optimal health. And for Ken (my hubby) who can't seem to get things under control, yeah, totally needful. I'll definitely tell him about the Goat Rue thing- thanks a bunch!! I'm totally with you on getting back to the way God intended- that's why I'm so thrilled with the 811 approach to diet :)

Ahhh to get to that place where I wouldn't need anything no herbs no nothing, just working the way it should on it's own. Now that's what I dream of. How long have you been following 811?

I did Dr. Couzens detox for 30 days when I first went raw and didn't find it very hard. As a matter of fact I stopped eating fruit in October of 2011 and now only occasionally eat it. Bananas are very high in sugar, it may be a fruit that you won't ever be able to eat without shooting up your glucose readings. We all have decisions to make in our life journey and what you choose to eat may be one of your most challenging ones. Good Luck.
Oh yes, when I was doing the detox, my coach recommended Ani Phyo's book "Ani's Raw Kitchen". There are quite a few recipes in there for phase 1.
Permalink Reply by Claudia Bentley on May 16, 2012 at 8:40pm I need a snack on my way home from work because the length of time from my lunch hour and my way home is too long so I'm finding that when I get home I want to binge and eat everything in sight and I still have to prepare my dinner. So I just want something to tide me over to prevent me from doing this. I also tend to get bored very easy so I need variety and recipe ideas for this very limited phase. I will check out Ani's book thanks!
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 16, 2012 at 10:08pm Claudia, I went raw just about over a year ago... did a 42 day juicefast starting Dec. 28, '11. Long story, but I had a bad rebound effect from the JF and found my way back to "100%" raw again (I use quotes b/c I have found that a lot of things I was using weren't really raw, as in cashews, cacao, agave, etc.!) and just still wasn't feeling the energy I was used to... found 811 about 6 weeks ago and I'm back at the gym with having to FORCE myself to take a day off!! It's just so easy and natural and I'm so happy that it's all produce based :) I hardly take any supplements and don't use much in the way of superfoods anymore either (goji berries and bee pollen is about it). I've been in touch with a coach who says that it takes 3-5 years to really make this a lifestyle... so I'm just an infant! But I can't see myself turning back- I just feel too amazing :)
I'm confused why it didn't work for you b/c from what I'm reading fruit sugar doesn't need insulin to be received into the cells... the only thing Doug says (and others) that keeps the fruit sugar from being received by the cell is fat coating the cells and insulin receptors. I wonder what else is going on???
Permalink Reply by Claudia Bentley on May 16, 2012 at 11:25pm I haven't tried 811 I've never read that book. I just was eating a high fruit diet and I wasn't stablelizing . I'm going to try this first I'm not close minded I'm willing to try anything as long as it makes sense to me. Glad you are feeling better now!
Permalink Reply by Denise Norber on May 17, 2012 at 10:17am I'm sure you've thought of taking carrots and celery to snack on in the car. How about a handful of nuts? Might be just enough to tide you over. I have a list of recipes from Ani's book that are appropriate for Phase 1 but I won't be back home until next Wednesday. I'll be happy to email it to you then if you still find you need it.
When I was tracking my glucose levels this past winter while participating in a program with Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo, I was at one point permitted green apples and blueberries. If in a green smoothie it helped keep the levels low. Dr. Ritamarie says that blueberries are generally ok for most people. Cinnamon and chia also help regulate the levels. You just have to find what works for you.
I would love to jump in here. I am not having any problems with sugar except I feel totally "outta whack". I know I have candida issues.....I ALWAYS feel better if I stick closer to a "no sugar" or limited sugar diet. When I eat a higher fat diet I seem to have more level moods....but now I'm worried about too much fat in my blood...maybe this is causing the candida issue. I think I want to try low fruit, low fat....high greens and high veggies....???? Some fats, berries and low sugar fruits.
I would love if ANYONE can email me some recipes that are Phase 1 comptatible.
Permalink Reply by Wendy Geesey on May 17, 2012 at 12:20pm The 80 10 10 book talks about fat being the issue in candida! I feel a little sad when I hear people say they want to steer away from fruit b/c glucose is the primary fuel for the body- and especially the BRAIN! Maybe you haven't tried eating enough fruit Wendi??? High fat causes all kinds of health issues. I highly recommend Doug Graham's book... I've never felt better and my mood is better than it's ever been... it's hard to get depressed when your energy level is high.
Permalink Reply by Denise Norber on May 17, 2012 at 6:37pm If you have candida issues then you should not have ANY fruit. Candida feeds on sugar. I would love to email you some recipes when I get back home next week. However, if you stick to green salads (no carrots) and use a small amount of oil with lemon juice as your dressing you should be fine. If you need additional bulk then add some walnuts or almond to the salad. Don't forget to add a small amount of pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds also. Just watch your amounts so it doesn't become high fat.
I know Wendy Geesey is big on the 80 10 10 diet, but that is not for everyone. You are already have out of whack responses to sugar so I would go with Dr. Couzens protocols.

Permalink Reply by Claudia Bentley on May 17, 2012 at 8:57pm Wells ladies I am very happy to report that today was my first day of fully committing myself to Phase 1 and Voila I have been running in the 100's all day. I just checked my before dinner sugar @ it's 107. I haven't seen this since let's see I can't remember when. Anyways I am very excited and I even forgot to take my mid day sugar herbs and I only took one shot of insulin this morning. Hoping to wean myself off I usually take 4 shots per day plus my herbs. I was running 200's-300's before ;0)... Wendi Grant sounds like you may want to start with Phase 1.5 since you want to include berries, but you need to turn the composting button off. I suggest you read the Rainbow Live Green Food Cuisine it talks about turning on your reset button and stopping the composting in your body also has lots of recipes ;0)
