Adding LIFE to your years and years to your life!

I added this post back in July & with this evening's news of dear Jack's passing (at the age of 96), I felt that now would be a good time to revisit it so we can show our appreciation, respect & add our tributes to Jack Lalanne - Celebrating a Life WELL LIVED!!!

Today we are continuing on with our focus on Fitness!  No discussion on the topic would be complete without mentioning the legend of Jack Lalanne. Born in 1914, Lalanne is an American fitness, exercise, nutritional expert, and motivational speaker who has been called "the godfather of fitness". At the age of 15, he heard Paul Bragg give a talk on health and nutrition. Bragg's message had a powerful influence on LaLanne, who decided at that time to focus on his diet and exercise habits.

LaLanne has published books and videos on fitness and nutrition, appeared in movies, an even recorded a song with Connie Haines. He has marketed exercise equipment, a range of vitamin supplements, and two models of electric juicers. These include the "Juice Tiger" and "Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer".

At the age of 95, LaLanne continues to work out every morning for two hours. He spends 1½ hours in the weight room and half an hour swimming or walking. When interviewed by Katie Couric on NBC's Today show, LaLanne said his two simple rules of nutrition are: "if man made it, don't eat it", and "if it tastes good, spit it out." He often says, "I cannot afford to die, it will ruin my image." You can watch more from Jack Lalanne by following the article in our Fitness Room.

Congrats ladies for winning the books. Super prize. Love Jack LaLanne. I am really enjoying the videos on "elder" folks who are doing yoga etc....working out like Jack. So inspiring...no excuses, they just do it and look at them. I wanna be them as I age.
I adore Jack Lalanne!! I heard about him a few years back when he was doing one of his birthday "stunts" on the Today show. I was fascinated with his energy! And of course, I have a Jack Lalane juicer!

I've been exercising consistently for about 8 years (since I graduated High School). Even pregnant I am still walking on the treadmill and doing prenatal yoga. I also adore anything outdoors, hiking and biking especially! Yay endorphins!!!
I actually used to exercise with Jack LaLanne when he was live (it was black-and-white tv back then, by the way). It was fun, his calisthenics were always so precise and he'd always count -- he'd say, "one TEW three four" hahaha
Thanks Penni for keeping us on our toes :) I love Jack LaLanne, his videos still are priceless...
Hey! Do you have a stability ball? You know one of those big balls you can do sit ups on, or just sit and watch tv on it, pushups, so many things you can do with it AND they are quiet!!! It's and idea.

CONGRADS TO THE WINNERS! YAY!!!!

Jack LaLanne I have always ALWAYS admired. He is awesome!!!! What an inspiration!!!

I may be giving away my age here, but I remember watching Jack LaLanne on TV. Of course, I was only a kid then, but my mom and I used watch the show and do the exercises. Also, I have a book that I bought many years ago by Paul Bragg, and there is a picture in it of him and his daughter, Patricia Bragg, posing with Jack LaLanne and his wife. I must have bought this book like 20 something years ago, and in it Paul Bragg talks about the importance of eating raw food! I think Patricia Bragg lives somewhere in Santa Barbara, CA.
I had my Jack Lanne juicer for about 25 years and I used it for many of those years....I finally had to retire it last year as it finally quit on me.....Must have been that darn wheatgrass and kale!!!! The poor machine took a lickin and kept on tickin day after day!!!! I have been following Jack for years and love his energy and vibrant enthusiasm!!! I hope I have all his spunk when I'm 95......I certainly am visualizing it for sure!!!!
This is excellent info! Thanks! I've been moving in my water aerobics class as well as walking and taking the stairs when I can. I would really Love the opportunity to read your book and then share it with others:-)
Congrats to our Winners! : )
